After thrashing England 3-1 in the four-match Test series and qualifying for the World Test Championship final in June against New Zealand, Team India will now move their attention to T20I cricket. The hosts are set to play five T20Is against a full-strength England side led by Eoin Morgan, starting on March 12 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
India will have the chance to check their bench strength ahead of the World T20 scheduled later this year in India against an England side that is on top of the charts in terms of rankings and have played some sensational cricket under Morgan. India, who currently sit second in the standings, also have named a strong squad along with few newcomers following strong showings in last year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) at the United Arab Emirates.
The series against England could well be the last time the national selectors could see how the team performs at the international level as there are no T20Is scheduled following this five-match series. However, if rumours are to be believed, South Africa could come to India to play three games after India’s tour of England ends and just before the World T2OI in October-November but nothing is confirmed yet.
So, here is everything you need to know about India’s all-important five-match T20I series against the Three Lions.
