1st T20I, The Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg 18 February, 2018

Toss won by South Africa (decided to bowl)

India beat South Africa by 28 runs

Man of the Match: Bhuvneshwar Kumar

So, that's it. It's all over in Joburg and India register a comprehensive victory here. Special performance from Dhawan and Bhuvneshwar. India continue to dominate the limited overs in India. They win this one by 28 runs and take a 1-0 lead.

WICKET! Unadkat also gets into the act now, Phehlukwayo departs to a slower ball. Trying to go for a big hit but perishing. SA 175/9 after 19.4 overs.

Bumrah concedes 10 runs off that over, again despite starting with a no ball which went for a four. SA require 35 from 6 balls here, and you have to say that the game is pretty much over. They are 169/6 at the end of 19 overs.

Bhuvneshwar’s 5/24 are the best bowling figures at Johannesburg andthe best figures by an Indian bowler outside the sub-continent.

WICKET!Team Hat-trick for India! Bhuvneshwar might not have been able to get his hat-trick but Pandya with a superb throw means Paterson is run out. SA crumbling here as they lose 4 wickets in that over. SA 159/8

WICKET! Another one for Bhuvneshwar, and he will be on a hat-trick here. Its carbon copy of  the previous dismissal as again Raina takes a great catch to dismiss Morris. SA 158/7

WICKET! Another one for Bhuvneshwar, Klaasen also departs trying to go for the big one. Holes out to Raina at long on. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been sensational today, picks up his fourth.SA 158/6.

Pandya had been excellent till the last two balls, Klaasen picks up a six - straight over long on and then a boundary over short third man. SA pick 15 runs from the over. They need 50 runs from the final 3 overs here.

South Africa managing to keep themselves alive with occasional boundaries but still not getting that momentum changing big over. They pick up 10 runs from the Bumrah over, but still require 65 off 24 balls. SA 139/4 after 16.

WICKET! Chahal strikes, Behardien departs. Chahal again loops the ball and Behardien looses his shape while going for the big hit. Pandey completes a simple catch at long on. SA are 129/4 after 15 overs.

Bumrah conceded a six off his first ball but makes a great comeback to restrict SA to just 9 runs in that over. The required run rate keeps on climbing, SA 121/3 after 14 overs.

50! Hendricks brings up his half-century, been a really good innings from him and it is his maiden half-century. SA need him to go berserk now if they are to win this one. He has certainly shown great composure though and will look to carry on till the end. SA 112/3 after 14 overs.

The 50 run partnership between Behardien and Hendricks is only the 2nd 50+ run partnership by a South African pair for the 4th wicket against India in T20Is.

105* is the highest partnership by Behardien and Duminy against India in T20Is for 4th wicket at Dharamsala in 2015

Excellent over for South Africa, just what was required at this stage. Three boundaries coming from the over and SA are 103/3 after 14 overs. They require 101 off 48 balls.

Hendricks continues to show fight for South Africa, again finding the boundary of Pandya's last ball. Not the best of bowling from him as he concedes 11 from the over. SA are 89/3 after 11 overs.

10 overs gone here and South Africa are 79/3, they will need big last 10 overs here if they are to chase this one but it is looking highly unlikely at the moment

South Africa not getting the big overs like they require here, despite picking a boundary, only 7 runs off that Pandya over. They are 68/3 after 9 overs

Yuzvendra Chahal comes into the attack for India, the tormentor-in-chief during the ODIs. He concedes 6 singles of his first over, the required run rate is already touching 12 for South Africa. They are 61/3 after 8 overs.

Despite the wicket, not a bad over for South Africa. They pick up 14 runs from that one, Hendricks is looking good for South Africa. South Africa are 55/3 after 7 overs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has managed to take multiple wickets in a single inning after 12 innings.

The last time Bhuvneshwar took multiple wickets against a Test playing nation was in 2015 against Zimbabwe.

He has taken 2 wickets so far in this match.

WICKET! Pandya strikes, again a slower ball. This time its a cutter and David Miller will have to depart. He looks to go for the maximum but can only pick Shikhar Dhawan, who takes a good running catch. Miller departs for 9. SA 48/3

Jasprit Bumrah comes into the attack and starts well, he concedes just 3 runs from his first over. The powerplay ends and not the best of starts for South Africa, they are 41/2 after 6 overs.

JP Duminy’s scores in the last 4 innings.

3 vs India

4 vs Bangladesh

13 vs Bangladesh

29 vs New Zealand.

WICKET! Bhuvneshwar strikes with a knuckle ball, a slower one and Duminy looks for the big heave over mid-wicket,  he can only air that one and Raina takes a great catch running behind and over his shoulder. SA 38/2

Good over from Unadkat there, pulling things back after an expensive first over. He concedes just 5 runs from that one. SA are 35/1 after 4 overs.

WICKET! Bhuvneshwar stirkes, after conceding a six to Hendricks, he gets the better of his partner Smuts. Smuts looks to play it off his pads but can only get a top edge. Ball goes high into the sky and Dhawan completes a good catch. SA 30/1 after 3 overs

Big over for South Africa, Unadkat concedes three boundaries off his first over. Not the best of starts for the 11 crore man. South Africa get a much needed big over. They move onto 20/0 after 2 overs.

Smuts starts with a boundary off the first ball but Bhuvneshwar comes back well for India. Certainly bowling a lot fuller as compared to SA and mixing it up. SA 6/0 after the 1st over.

South Africa will need to get off to a big start here if they are to chase this one, JJ Smuts and Reeza Hendricks will start the proceedings for South Africa, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has the ball for India as we start the chase.

So, Indian innings comes to an end. Terrific effort from India, they end at 203/5, which is also their highest total against South Africa. The pitch looks good but South Africa will need a special effort to chase this one.

India vs South Africa 1st T20I in Johannesburg Highlights - Bhuvneshwar & Dhawan Steal Show

PREVIEW IND vs SA: The three-Test series was a hard-fought affair that went the way of South Africa 2-1. Then came the series of six one-day internationals, and it was all about Virat Kohli and the Indian spin twins, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. South Africa were not at their strongest, with AB de Villiers missing the first three games, and Faf du Plessis and Quinton de Kock going out after the first and the second ODIs respectively. Even then, South Africa wouldn’t have anticipated a scoreline of 5-1 in India’s favour. Between them, Yadav and Chahal picked up 33 of the 53 South African wickets to fall. If that pegged the batsmen back, the South African bowlers were put to the sword by the Indian top-order batsmen. Shikhar Dhawan was good, with one century and two half-centuries, and Rohit Sharma took care of the fifth ODI with his 115 from the top of the order. But Kohli batted at another level altogether. Even as India lost the Test series, he topped the batting charts with 286 runs, and it was more of the same in the ODIs, as he hit 112, 46*, 160*, 75, 36 and 129* for an incredible 558 runs from six games at an average of 186, all at a strike rate of 99.46. All of those men are there for the T20Is too, and there’s no reason to believe they won’t give it their best shot to add the T20I trophy to the ODI one. They will back their chances too, because South Africa are again going to be without some of the men they would ideally want in their XIs: du Plessis and de Kock are still out, there’s no Hashim Amla or Kagiso Rabada around, and Imran Tahir has also been left out, while JP Duminy has been promoted as captain. Instead, the team has two players with no international experience in Junior Dala, a 28-year-old right-arm medium pacer, and Christiaan Jonker, a 31-year-old batsman. Also in the mix is Heinrich Klaasen, who became such a hero after playing the lead role in South Africa’s only win in the ODI series. Linda Zondi, the Cricket South Africa National Selection Panel Convener, explained that some of the changes were made keeping in mind South Africa’s upcoming Test series at home against Australia. In the short-term, that might affect South Africa’s chances, though with explosive batsmen like Duminy, David Miller and, of course, de Villiers around, India, who have brought back Suresh Raina after a long gap, have to be wary even if they look the stronger on paper.
Squads: India: Virat Kohli (captain) Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Lokesh Rahul, Suresh Raina, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wk), Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, Manish Pandey, Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Jaydev Unadkat, Shardul Thakur.
South Africa: Jean-Paul Duminy (captain), Farhaan Behardien, Junior Dala, AB de Villiers, Reeza Hendricks, Christiaan Jonker, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), David Miller, Chris Morris, Dane Paterson, Aaron Phangiso, Andile Phehlukwayo, Tabraiz Shamsi, Jon-Jon Smuts.
