India vs South Africa: Shardul Thakur, Navdeep Saini Called in as Net Bowlers

New Delhi: The Indian team management have decided to call in Shardul Thakur and Navdeep Thakur to help the batsmen during the net sessions, as Virat Kohli and his troops weren't happy with the bowlers that South Africa were providing over the first two Tests.

The visitors are leaving no stones unturned to finish the series on a high after losing in Cape Town and Centurion by massive margins. Speaking to CricketNext, a source in the team management said the idea was to get a strong session in the nets going into the game and the preparation wasn't enough against the net bowlers that the hosts were providing.

"Yes, we did send back the four bowlers we had with us when we arrived in South Africa before the first Test. But the point is that we realised that the net bowlers being provided were not really up to the mark and having someone like Saini or Thakur would be really nice. Also, Saini couldn't come then because he was busy with the Ranji Trophy final. But having him around could be a good idea ahead of the third Test. As for Thakur, he will be anyway there in the limited-overs series so just having him jump the bus a few days in advance. The boys really want to finish the Test series on a high as they have done well in patches but failed to fire collectively," he said.

Earlier, ahead of the first Test, Cricketnext also broke the news that Basil Thampi, Avesh Khan, Mohammed Siraj and Navdeep Saini will be the four pacers who will assist the Indian batsmen in training in the 'Rainbow Nation'. However, the quartet were sent back even before the first day of the Cape Town Test and now, in a bizarre turn of events, Saini and Shardul have been called up again.

The third and the final Test of the three match series will be played at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, starting January 24. The hosts have already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series and the visitors will hope to pull one back against the in-form South African line-up.
