New Delhi: The Indian team cruised to an eight-wicket win over the Proteas in the sixth ODI at Centurion, on Friday. Win the win, the India cliched the series 5-1, their first-ever on South African soil. Skipper Virat Kohli was the architect of the win as he brought up his 35th ODI ton in the match.

The Indian captain scored a staggering 558 runs in the series victory and is now ready to scale greater heights. After his innings, Kohli said, "I have got eight or nine years left in my career and I want to make the most of every day. It's a blessing that I am healthy and getting to captain my country."

Right from former cricketers, to the current ones, everyone posted congratulatory messages for Kohli.

Leading the way was former England skipper Michael Vaughan who called Kohli 'greatest ever ODI player'. In a tweet, Vaughan wrote, "35th .... Greatest Ever ODI player ... #Fact ... @imVkohli #SAvIND."

Suresh Raina, who recently made it to the Indian team for the T20I series against South Africa tweeted, "One of the best ODI innings I have seen in the recent past. Congratulations, @imVkohli! Excellent work by #TeamIndia to win an ODI series for the first time in South Africa. Way to go, boys✌️✌️ #SAvIND 🇮🇳."

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar also lavished praise on run-machine Kohli. He tweeted, "Remarkable innings by @imVkohli to get to his 35th ODI century. Congratulations #TeamIndia on winning an ODI series for the first time in South Africa. Great achievement 🇮🇳 #SAvIND."

Thanks to Kohli, chasing 205 was made to look like a walk in the park, who remained unbeaten on 129 off 96 balls with 19 boundaries and 2 sixes. In the entire series he amassed 558 runs, and became the highest run-scorer in a bilateral series ever. Along with this, it was also the highest runs scored by a captain in ODI series and also highest runs scored against South Africa.
