1st ODI, Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala 10 December, 2019

Toss won by Sri Lanka (decided to bowl)

Sri Lanka beat India by 7 wickets

Man of the Match: Suranga Lakmal

THAT IS IT...ALL OVER in the 1st ODI!!! Mathews hits a drive past the mid-off fielder as the Lankans celebrate. Mathews has done a brilliant job to hold ground after Sri Lanka lost Tharanga for 49. Mathews unbeaten on 25 and Dickwella unbeaten on 26 as Lanka finish with 29 overs left.

9 runs from the Hardik over here as Dickwella hits two boundaries to take the attack to the Indian bowlers. He clearly knows one way to play and that is attack the bowling. Sri Lanka now one hit away from winning the game as they need 4 runs. Sri Lanka's score reads 109/3 after 20 overs

5 runs from the Bhuvneshwar over as Dickwella joins in the party and plays a brilliant short-arm pull that races into the square-leg boundary. Sri Lanka's score reads 100/3 as the visitors now need 13 runs to win this game. Dickwella means business here and wants to hit boundaries.

5 runs from the Bumrah over here as Mathews hits another crunching boundary over the point fielder's head. Sloppy work from Bhuvneshwar at the third-man boundary as he fails to bend down enough and pick the ball up. Sri Lanka's score reads 95/3 after 18 overs.

6 runs again from the Hardik over now as the Lankans are also riding their luck here. After a crushing drive meets Karthik at covers, Dickwella inside edges one to the fine-leg boundary. Lankans inch closer to the target as the score reads 91/3 after 17 overs. Visitors need 22 runs more with 7 wickets in the bag

9 runs from the Bumrah over as Mathews first hits a pull that rockets to the boundary on the carpet and then plays the perfect drive past the cover fielder. That was undoubtedly one of the shots of the day as the Lankan score reads 85/3 after 16 overs. 28 more runs needed for the Lankans.

4 runs from the Hardik over as Mathews goes back and beautifully on-drives the pacer to put the pressure right back on the Indian bowlers. This has been a quality performance from the Sri Lankan players, be it with bat or ball. Sri Lanka's score reads 76/3 after 15 overs. 37 more needed for the Lankans with 7 wickets in the bag

6 runs from the Bhuvneshwar over as Dickwella brings out the flick out of nowhere and the ball bounces a couple of times and into the boundary. One gritty customer this one as the Indians need to get rid of him quickly. Sri Lanka's score reads 72/3 after 14 overs. Sri Lanka still need 41 runs to win

WICKET!!! Hardik has finally got his man after going for a few runs as Tharanga edges one to Dhawan who takes the catch on second attempt. Tharanga goes for 49, but this could be too late in the day for the Indians as the Lankans are already on course and now need just 47 from 222 balls after the 13th over.

4 runs from the Bhuvneshwar over as the edge off the last ball from Tharanga's bat drops short of Dhawan at first slip. Bhuvi wears an unlucky look here as the Lankans are slowly but surely moving towards the target. Sri Lanka's score reads 60/2 after 12 overs. A good rise in the scoring rate here for the visitors.

14 runs from the Hardik over as that is almost the game gone. That was a very expensive over and not the kind of momentum that the Indians would have wished to give the Lankans when they have managed to score just 112 batting first. Sri Lanka's score reads 56/2 after 11 overs

11 runs from the Bumrah over here as Tharanga is slowly looking good and striking the ball well. Bumrah is bowling too many no-balls and that is hurting the team when you are defending just 112. Sri Lanka's score reads 42/2 after 10 overs with the Lankans very much on top here.

FOUR and FOUR! Back to back boundaries for Tharanga, first off the back foot, he cuts one for boundary and then just picks it off his pads over the mid-off for a boundary. SL 30/2

Bumrah certainly bowling a probing spell here, almost got the better off Mathews with a great ball. he concedes just 1 run there, SL 20/2.

Angelo Mathews is the new man in for Sri Lanka, and he certainly has to play the role similar to Dhoni. He will have to use all his experience to guide Sri Lanka home here.

WICKET! Thirimanne departs now, beautiful delivery from Bhuvneshwar Kumar, it comes in and gets Thirimanne to play it onto the stumps. Again they check for the no ball and its a close call. But umpires have no conclusive evidence, hence they stay with the on field call.  SL 19/2 now, Thirimanne departs for a 0.

Bumrah strikes yet again or maybe not, its a no ball. This has happened before against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy final, it seems Bumrah knew as he straight away looked at the umpire. Replays show that he had overstepped the bowling crease  To add insult to injury, the free hit goes for a boundary. SL 19/1 after 6 overs.

Tharanga seems to be playing a solid knock here and Sri Lanka need him to stay at the crease as long as possible. He gets a boundary with a perfect drive as Sri Lanka move onto 12/1 after 5 overs.

WICKET! It was coming, the bowlers have been piling on the pressure and its a terrible shot from Gunathilaka, he tries to give himself room and heave it over the cover region. All he manages to do is get an outside edge and Dhoni completes a simple catch behind the stumps. Early wicket is just what the doctor ordered for India. SL 7/1.

4 runs from the Bhuvi over as he bowls one wide outside the off-stump and Tharanga launches into that one. But Bhuvi comes back to once again beat the edge of the opener's bat. Sri Lanka must look to stay positive and not worry about the ball missing the edge. Sri Lanka's score reads 7/0 after 3 overs

1 run from the Bumrah over here as Gunathilaka plays and misses a few balls towards the end of the over. Good line here from the Indian pacer as he is looking to make the Lankan openers play. Sri Lanka's score reads 3/0 after 2 overs here on a wicket that is still aiding the bowlers.

THE BOYS ARE BACK!!! Defending 112, Rohit hands the ball to Bhuvneshwar as he bowls a good over to Gunathilaka and Tharanga as the Lankans pick up two runs from the first over of the innings chasing 113 for a win in the opening ODI of the series. Sri Lanka's score reads 2/0

WICKET!! This is it. India all out for 112. Brilliant innings from MS Dhoni comes to an end as he slices one from Perera to Gunathilaka. Goes for 65 as India end on 112 on a wicket that helped the Lankan seamers. Lakmal stole the show at the top with Mathews and Pradeep. Sri Lanka need 113 to win this one.

Chahal survives. Bats out 6 balls from Pradeep as India's score reads 108/9 after 38 overs. Huge round of applause from the Indian dressing room and Dhoni also appreciates the effort put in by Chahal to stand with his head down and bat out the over.

10 runs from the Pathirana over here as Dhoni first hits a huge one over wide long on into the stands and the straight drive off the last ball hits the sponsor board and comes back into play. Dhoni murdered that one. India's score reads 108/9 after 37 overs. But can Chahal now bat an over?

FIFTY NUMBER 67 for MSD!!! Brilliant innings from the former India skipper as he brings up fifty with a backfoot punch to the boundary. Lone battle here from the finisher as the other batsmen failed to show the same grit and determination. India's score reads 97/9

WICKET!!! Bumrah goes for 15-ball duck as the resistance finally ends and MS Dhoni is not happy. That was a wild hoick from Bumrah and against the run of play. This was not needed, but Pathirana looped that up and that was enough to entice Bumrah. India's score reads 87/9

DHONI does it again. Shows who is boss. Umpire puts the finger up after Pathirana hits Bumrah on the pad. But MSD turns back and reviews the decision without even looking at Bumrah and he is right. That one hit the pad outside the line of the stump. India's score reads 87/8 after 33 overs.

1 run from the Dananjaya over as Dhoni picks a single off the last ball to keep the strike for the next over. Smart thinking from the former India skipper, once again showing why he is the boss when it comes to such scenarios. India's score reads 86/8 after 32 overs

Pathirana into the bowling attack and Dhoni picks a boundary and a last-ball signal to pick 5 runs from the over. The punch off the backfoot past the cover fielder once again shows how nimble Dhoni still is with his foot movement. India's score reads 85/8 after 31 overs

India vs Sri Lanka Highlights, 1st ODI in Dharamsala: All-round Lanka Thrash Hosts by 7 Wickets

LATEST UPDATE: Mathews hits a boundary as the Lankans reach the target of 113. A 7-wicket win and this will work wonders for the confidence of the Lankans as it is a three-match series. Thisara Perera won the toss and decided to bowl first as he wants to take advantage of the early moisture. Rohit Sharma is set to captain Team India for the 1st time in Dharamshala and is happy to bat first as he feels it is a good pitch to bat on.

PREVIEW IND vs SL: A horribly out-of-form Ajinkya Rahane will be aiming to get his mojo back as India, formidable even without regular skipper Virat Kohli, eye another 'Whitewash' against Sri Lanka in the three-match ODI series, starting on Sunday. From the polluted 'Gas Chamber' of National Capital, the action has now shifted to the most scenic cricket stadium in the country in the backdrop of the pristine Dhauladhar Range. The primary objective for chief coach Ravi Shastri and stand-in captain Rohit Sharma will be to look at various combinations in both departments against an out-of-sorts team. With the match starting at 11:30 am in cooler confines and bouncy conditions, the toss could prove to be a crucial factor during the opening ODI. Having won five straight bilateral series apart from reaching Champions Trophy final, a 3-0 win will put India on top of ICC ODI rankings, overtaking South Africa. The last time India faced Sri Lanka in the one-dayers, Kohli's men swept aside the Island nation 5-0. Even without their inspirational skipper, a batting line-up comprising Rohit, Rahane, Dinesh Karthik, MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav could prove to be a handful for any opposition. While the opening slot seems locked with Rohit and Dhawan at the top, Rahane is likely to get a chance at the number three position with Kohli given a much-needed rest. However if Dhawan, who was down with viral fever on Saturday, pulls out then Rahane could be seen opening the innings. The stylish Mumbai batsman had scored three half-centuries and a hundred in the bilaterals against West Indies in June-July, before blasting four successive fifties against Australia at home. The only ODI game that he played against Sri Lanka this year, Rahane scored just 5 before stumbling upon a rough patch in the Test series against Sri Lanka. With the South Africa Test series round the corner, the team management would certainly want their favourite 'Jinks' to break the jinx.
Dinesh Karthik and Mahendra Singh Dhoni is likely to take the next two slots, before Kedar Jadhav comes at the number six.
