The first day of the four-day warm-up match between India and Cricket Australia XI has been washed out by relentless rain in Sydney which didn't allow even the toss to take place. The toss is scheduled to happen at 9.30am local time on Thursday (November 29), with the game slated to begin at 10am.

With this being the only practice match for India ahead of the first Test against Australia in Adelaide from December 6, the visitors have been denied valuable preparation time. The weather forecast for the second day isn't promising either.

India's preparation could also be hit by the quality of the opposition as concerns remain over the standard of the CA XI side. Among the 12 players in the squad, only D'Arcy Short has played international cricket, that too in limited-overs formats. The board had the option of fielding players like Matthew Renshaw, Alex Doolan and Matthew Wade, who missed out on Test selection last week. However, eight of 12 members in the squad have played only a limited number of first-class matches.

Cricket Australia defended the squad, saying that the main players were busy with Sheffield Shield.

The warm-up match isn't classified as a first-class game, which means players might not take the game too seriously. However, it gives India an opportunity to test out all their squad members, weather permitting.
