He is undoubtedly one of the most devastating batsmen to have played the gentleman’s game, but former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum wants kids to emulate technically correct Kane Williamson over him.

New Delhi: He is undoubtedly one of the most devastating batsmen to have played the gentleman’s game, but former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum wants kids to emulate technically correct Kane Williamson over him.

Taking to Twitter, McCullum said that kids should emulate Williamson as that is clearly less frustrating. “One piece of advice, probably better to try play like Kane Williamson rather than me. Less frustration for sure! Haha,” he wrote.

Even though McCullum has retired from international cricket, he is a hit with franchise-based leagues across the world and is currently plying his trade for Gujarat Lions in the 10th edition of the Indian Premier League.

Williamson on the other hand, is representing defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad this year. But, thanks to his copybook technique, he is often considered more suited to the Test and ODI format. As a result, he didn’t find a place in SRH’s first few games this year.

But the current Kiwi skipper did prove detractors wrong by hitting 89 off 51 balls against Delhi Daredevils in his first game, before hitting a quickfire 21 off just 14 balls on Saturday.

McCullum on his part has scored 258 runs in 6 games for Gujarat at a strike-rate of 150.87. He has hit 22 boundaries and 16 sixes. Since the start of this year’s IPL, he has managed scores of 35, 5, 49, 64, 72, 33.
