Hi, my name is Baidurjo, cricket correspondent with CricketNext, and I have with me our editor Arnab Sen.

15:45 (IST)

Arnab: Both team would definitely know what they are looking at going into this game. May the best team win.

This is all we have from here for now. We will be back with the LIVE match blog in 15 minutes from now.

IPL 2017, DD vs KKR, Live Score: Zaheer Khan Opts to Bat

15:41 (IST)

Baidurjo: Did surprise me a bit as well. But I am more surprised that there is still no place for Shakib. But Coulter-Nile could be a good pick because he has played for Delhi and knows the conditions at the Kotla like the back of his hand. His bounce could be an important factor against the Daredevils batsmen.

15:39 (IST)

Arnab: I must admit I am a bit surprised that neither Chawla nor Shakib has got a game here. As for Delhi, I think Mathews for Anderson cannot be discussed because the Kiwi is unwell. But dropping Nadeem and picking Shami could be a little bit of a surprise because over the years he has been the unsung hero for Delhi. He had been entrusted with the responsibility of bowling in the powerplay in the last 2 matches and he has done well. He has bowled 4 overs in the power play at an economy of 6.25 only 4 bowlers have a better economy rate in the power plays and has picked up 2 wickets. He has conceded only 3 boundaries in the powerplay, only Rashid Khan has conceded fewer boundaries. He has bowled 11 dot balls in the powerplay with an excellent dot ball percentage of 45.83%.

15:34 (IST)

Baidurjo: Toss News: Zaheer Khan wins the toss and says Delhi will bat first. Gambhir not upset as he says he would have loved to chase anyway. Zaheer wants some bounce. Gambhir says nothing special about playing DD, even though it is good to come back.

Coulter-Nile comes in for Trent Boutlt for KKR, still no Shakib for Kolkata Knight Riders.

Shami comes in for Nadeem and Angelo Mathews comes in for Corey Anderson as the latter is not well.

15:31 (IST)

Arnab: I would like to play devil's advocate here and say that while everyone is going ga-ga over Delhi, the team's Indians batsmen need to put up an improved show. Indian batters are the core of Delhi Daredevils batting line-up, but they are lacking consistency. 8 times Indian batsmen of Delhi have managed to score more than 10 runs in 3 matches, but they have managed to convert it into 30 plus scores on just 3 occasions. 4 times in three matches DD’s Indian batsmen got out in the single digit score. (includes 3 ducks) In their previous match against KXIP, 3 Indian batsmen of DD managed to score 15 or more (Iyer, Samson and Pant), but no one managed to reach the 30 runs mark. This might be because of their constantly change in DD’s batting order as except Aditya Tare (Opener), none of DD’s Indian batsman batted at a same batting position for 2 consecutive matches this season. But Tare has been dropped now and does not look like he will be back anytime soon.

15:27 (IST)

Baidurjo: No doubt Delhi's bowling has been the reason for the success they have achieved this season. But KKR also have quality spinners and that will help in the conditions on offer at the Kotla. Narine and Kuldeep both have conceded runs at an economy rate of less than 7.00 RPO. Kuldeep Yadav has picked up 4 wickets this season at an economy and average of just 6.91 RPO and 20.75 respectively. Sunil Narine has picked up 3 wickets, but he is KKR’s most economical bowler this season with an economy rate of just 5.75 RPO. Shakib can add to the strength as he bowled an excellent spell (13/1 in 4 overs) in his only outing at the Kotla. Also, Chawla has picked up 18 wickets against Delhi – the joint most by a spinner against Delhi. So, it could well be spinners leading the show for KKR.

15:24 (IST)

Arnab: Iyer might have played just one game so far, due to chickenpox, but he showed he is in good form as he hit 22 off 17 balls against KXIP. It is just a matter of not throwing away his wicket after getting in. Nair has certainly had issues this season, but he is a quality player and it is just a matter of one good knock in the middle. He has also been quite unlucky. Hopefully today will be the day when he repays the faith he has been shown by the management.

But mention must be made about Delhi's bowling this year. DD’s pacers have taken 18 wickets so far in this IPL, only Mumbai’s fast bowlers who have played a match more have taken more wickets (19). Delhi Daredevils are doing exceptionally well in both batting and bowling department during the death overs (16-20). Their bowling economy of 6.45 in death over is the best by any team in IPL 2017. In their previous match against KXIP, they conceded just 34 runs and picked up 3 wickets. They have picked up 9 wickets in death at an average of 8.00. (best average by any team in IPL 2017).

15:17 (IST)

Baidurjo: But, you do realise that Sunil Narine has his number. Narine has dismissed him twice and Samson has a strike-rate of just 83.33. Also, Umesh Yadav has done well against two other batsmen in Karun Nair and late-order 'threat' Chris Morris. After a slightly poor show against SRH in the last game, Umesh would surely want to prove himself against Delhi. In fact, Umesh needs to strike early and get the likes of Karun Nair and Shreyas Iyer in the middle. While Nair has looked out of colour, Iyer has played just one game and should not be given a feel of the conditions.

15:12 (IST)

Arnab: Well Gambhir better sort out the balance soon. For Delhi though, it looks like everything is in perfect shape. Be it the batting, bowling or fielding. In fact, Dravid's move to send Billings and Samson to open in the previous game proved to be a brilliant move as they took apart the KXIP attack. Billings has always been good at the top, but to give Samson more freedom looks like a good idea, even though he managed just 19 in the last game against Punjab. More than the 19, what worked was the team scoring 53 in 6.5 overs when he was dismissed. Over the years, the powerplay has been an area of concern for DD. But this time it looks good.

15:05 (IST)

Baidurjo: To be fair with you Arnab, I am just as confused as everyone else as to why Shakib is still not in the XI. He has been walking into every T20 team in the last couple of years and yet, he is still to play this season for KKR. He is not injured for sure. Also, Grandhomme's role in this team is something that I am not too sure of. To be honest, even skipper Gambhir looked just as confused. He scored a duck, understandable considering he was looking to up the ante at the death, but surprisingly, he did not bowl a single over. Shakib could have definitely brought more to the table. And most likely will against Delhi because with the Kotla wicket known to play slow, it could be the perfect opportunity to introduce Shakib.

14:58 (IST)

Arnab: Yes, something amiss for sure with KKR. Why are they not playing Shakib? Is he unfit? Also, what exactly is Colin de Grandhomme's role? Delhi though have chalked it out perfectly. And yes, you were right with the luck factor, but then, there were also issues with the foreign recruits not performing to potential and I feel that is where this team is making it count. Chris Morris, Corey Anderson, Sam Billings and Pat Cummins. You name it and you have it. They have been on a roll in fact. Their performance has seen someone as potent as Kagiso Rabada warming the bench.

14:54 (IST)

Baidurjo: Neat as always with your analysis. But you know what? Having covered Delhi Daredevils closely over the last 8 years, I have always felt they have been a tad bit unfortunate. T20 is a game where luck meets talent. And I have always felt that a couple of close games have always gone against DD and that has cost them in the end. But boy, this time Delhi looks like they are not willing to let luck play any role. Balance is the word. Something that Kolkata Knight Riders are yet to find. Gambhir will be hoping that he gets that at the earliest because despite the win in the last two games against Punjab and Hyderabad, somewhere the selection has looked slightly off the radar.

14:51 (IST)

Arnab: Yes, interesting time for Delhi indeed. Going into the tournament, they had their backs against the wall with JP Duminy pulling out and Quinton de Kock injured. But the boys from Dilli are back with a bang. Starting on a losing note against RCB, they have beaten Pune and Punjab with ease. And moreover, they are going so strong that even India's pace spearhead Mohammed Shami is warming the bench. Looks like Rahul Dravid and Paddy Upton have finally got the combination right.

Hi, my name is Baidurjo, cricket correspondent with CricketNext, and I have with me our editor Arnab Sen.

While Arnab will be batting for his home team Delhi Daredevils, I will be backing my home team Kolkata Knight Riders. Interestingly, this would be the first time in the last couple of years that Delhi go into the clash against KKR holding the edge.
