It seemed like all was over for the Lions but Brendon McCullum was not ready to throw in the towel just yet. The Kiwi veteran launched an attack to keep the hosts in the game.
McCullum shared a 66-run stand in just 34 balls with Aaron Finch to get Gujarat back on track. He went on to complete his half-century and motored along by hitting some trademark boundaries and maximums.
McCullum though was lured into playing an expansive slog sweep againt the turn by the wily Yuzvendra Chahal and that led to his undoing. The New Zealander departed after scoring 72 runs off 44 deliveries.
His innings was studded with 7 sixes and two boundaries. At the time McCullum got out, th Gujarat Lions needed 77 runs off 33 balls and the target was within reach if the big hitting Kiwi had stayed on.
McCullum's dismissal thus turned out to be the turning point of the match.
