New Delhi: There is no love lost between former India teammates Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, as Punjab's capture of pacer Ishant Sharma for the 10th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has become the reason for a verbal duel between the two legends.
Ishant went unsold at the IPL 2017 auction in February and at that time, Gambhir had said that it was because the pacer's base price was 'too high'.
Later, Ishant was plucked by Kings XI Punjab who wanted to bolster their bowling options and the pacer himself revealed that Sehwag played a major role for him to finally find a team in the cash-rich league.
Viru has now jumped into the defense of his Delhi teammate and has trained his guns towards Gambhir.
"Nobody will pay Rs 2 crore for 4 overs. I am surprised to see Ishant's base price. I think it was too high." Gambhir was quoted as saying during the IPL auction.
"Tell me one thing, who pays your Rs 12 crore for playing 60 balls then," retorted Sehwag during his teams jersey launch at an event.
Earlier, the two came at loggerheads too when Sehwag's tweet regarding Gurmehar Kaur went viral on twitter and Gambhir had come out in her support.
Over the years, the duo have maintained a cordial relationship on the pitch, but now it seems that there is no love lost between the duo. It will be interesting to see how the two greats of modern day cricket will meet each other once their teams clash on April 13 at Eden Gardens.
