Baidurjo: I am surprised with Henriques replacing FIZZ. That could be a harsh call and I would have expected Ben Cutting to sit out. But then, KKR would not mind this change. But a really good idea from Gambhir to bring back Kuldeep for Chawla. Kuldeep will be difficult to face for the likes of Warner and Cutting.
Arnab: Toss news: SRH have won the toss and opted to bowl first. Warner feels it will be a competitive game and says Henriques comes in for Mustafizur while Gambhir says Kuldeep comes in for Chawla. Also, Bipul Sharma is back for SRH in place of Vijay Shankar.
Baidurjo: Not at all trying to say that last day's dismal show by the SRH middle-order was a true reflection of their quality. But then, what one needs to keep in mind is that apart from having Pat Cummins at the top, KKR have two solid bowlers in Umesh Yadav and Sunil Narine.
While Narine's economy of 6.18 is the best in the IPL, Umesh Yadav has picked 9 wickets against SRH and that is the highest for any Indian bowler against the Orange Army.
Arnab: KKR indeed have some quality batsmen in the form of Gambhir, Uthappa and Manish Pandey at the top but the middle-order looks pretty light with Yusuf Pathan managing just 6 from his only outing and that is where SRH hold the edge. With the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Deepak Hooda and Naman Ojha around, the middle-order strength could be the difference. And, before you bring up last game's performance, that was a one-off bad day. Not every day is a Sunday and the boys will surely prove that.
Baidurjo: Oh yes, Bhuvi has been terrific for the Hyderabad outfit. But interestingly, he has never dismissed Gambhir and the KKR skipper is the leading run scorer at the Eden Gardens in IPL with 1221 runs. And then KKR have a quality batsman in wicket-keeper Robin Uthappa. He is just 80 runs away from completing 3500 runs in the IPL and will become the 1st wicket-keeper batsman to achieve this feat.
Arnab: Agreed that was a masterstroke and one that caught KXIP by surprise. But don't think KKR will make the mistake of sending him up against SRH. SRH have three wily foxes in Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ashish Nehra and Mustafizur Rahman. To think that Narine will be successful against them would be wishful thinking.
Bhuvneshwar won the purple cap in IPL 2016 taking 23 wickets and was brilliant for SRH in their title winning campaign. He has started in similar vein in IPL 2017 leading the top wicket-takers' table for seamers. He has an economy of 5.75, the lowest by any fast bowler
Baidurjo: While SRH surely missed a trick by dropping Henriques, it was a master-stroke from KKR skipper Gambhir that saw Sunil Narine open the batting for the Knights against KXIP. And what a knock the West Indies spinner played. He took apart the KXIP bowling, hitting 37 off 29 balls. In fact, he took the KXIP skipper Glenn Maxwell by surprise and by the time the latter could recover, the match was already in the pocket for KKR.
Arnab: Well if we are talking about numbers and skippers, Warner is also striking it well. He has a strike rate of 159.77 and has amassed 139 runs in 3 innings. The only place where the management seemed to go wrong was dropping the in-form Moises Henriques, but I am sure that he will be back in the playing XI at the Eden Gardens today.
Baidurjo: Take into account not just SRH's dismal record at the Eden Gardens. Even KKR have won 7 of their last 10 games at home. Also, they are led by a man who is in good form. Gautam Gambhir has scored 2 50s in the three games he has played so far at a strike rate of 151.81. He has amassed 167 runs with a highest score 76*
Arnab: Ghost of the past? That is a strong word indeed. Don't think even think the biggest KKR fan would have said that. But yes, SRH have had a dismal time playing at the Eden Gardens, losing the 4 games that they have played at the Mecca of Indian cricket, but then today is a new day and it takes one good performance from the Orange Army to change the record.
Baidurjo: Yes Happy New Year to all and what a day for the Bengalis to witness their favourite team fight it out at the Eden Gardens. Also, going by past records, Kolkata hold a clear edge over Sunrisers Hyderabad. In the 9 games that they have played so far, KKR have won 6 of them with SRH winning only 3. The ghost of the past will surely play on the minds of Warner and his boys when they enter the ground.
Arnab: Yes, having started well, SRH lost the plot somewhat in the last game when they lost to MI by 4 wickets. But losing a couple of games here and there is not too disconcerting in a format like the IPL. David Warner and his boys will definitely come out all guns blazing against KKR today. And yes, a very Happy Bengali New Year to all our Bengali friends around the world.
