Ahead of the tenth season of the Indian Premier League, Australian superstar Glenn Maxwell was entrusted with the responsibility to lead Kings XI Punjab in IPL 10. And after looking at his performance in Punjab's opening match against Rising Pune Supergiant, it is safe to say that 'the big show' is up for the big job.
Chasing a tricky target of 164 runs, Punjab were reeling at 85/4 in the 12th over of the match and Steven Smith's Pune side had clawed back into the encounter. Maxwell needed to get runs quickly to tilt the balance back in favour of Punjab.
The complexion of the match changed drastically in a blink of an eye once Maxwell took the crease. The Australian went on a rampage and thrashed the Pune bowlers at will.
Maxwell first made a mockery of IPL's most expensive foreign recruit Ben Stokes by hitting him for a four and a six in the 16th over of the match. Then in the 17th over, Maxwell clipped high-flying Imran Tahir's wings by hitting back to back sixes off T20I's number one ranked bowler.
David Miller gave finishing touches to the match, but it was Maxwell who had really turned the momentum in favour of Punjab.
Maxwell's 20-ball 44* included two fours and six huge sixes as Punjab went over the finishing line convincingly at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.
