The Rising Pune Supergiant won their first match of the Indian Premier League due to a fabulous knock by their captain Steven Smith. And once, Mayank Agarwal departed early against Kings XI Punjab at Indore, the Pune fans were looking for an encore from the Rahane -Smith duo.

Rahane rode his luck initially, while Smith got into the act with two back to back boundaries of Punjab's wicket taker Sandeep Sharma in the fifth over.

But Rahane's dismissal ensured Smith needed to keep his attacking instincts in check and play the role of the sheet anchor. The captain warmer up with a boundary off T Natarajan.

But a rising delivery from countryman Marcus Stoinis led to Smith's dismissal. The delivery was bowled into Smith's rib cage and the Pune captain tried to flick it over the backward square leg fence to get a six.

The ball fell short of the ropes and was well pouched in the deep by Manan Vohra. Smith for 26 off 27 deliveries with the score on 49. Smith's dismissal meant Ben Stokes had to wait for the right time to get going and Punjab made the most of this phase by bowling a bunch of economical overs.

Pune revived their fortunes to reach 163 but that was always going to be a below par total on the wicket. Smith's dismissal thus became the turning point of the match.
