Baidurjo and Arnab: This is all we have from here for now. See you guys with the toss and LIVE action in 45 mins.
Arnab: My Likley XI would be: Ajinkya Rahane, Rahul Tripathi, Steven Smith, Ben Stokes, MS Dhoni (wk), Manoj Tiwary, Dan Christian, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Imran Tahir, Jaydev Unadkat
Baidurjo: Looks like a mouth watering clash is on the cards. Let us have a look at the likely Playing XIs now. My Likely XI goes: Gautam Gambhir, Sunil Narine, Robin Uthappa (wk), Manish Pandey, Yusuf Pathan, Suryakumar Yadav, Colin de Grandhomme, Shakib Al Hasan, Chris Woakes, Umesh Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav
Arnab: Hope you remember that Rahane will be opening the innings for Pune. Rahane has had the edge against Umesh, scoring 54 runs off 38 balls against the pacer. A record that will work wonders for Rahane's confidence.
Baidurjo: Talking of powerplays, even though Gambhir decided to rest Nathan Coulter-Nile, his services will be missed at the start. He has been spot on after being drafted into the team in place of Trent Boult. But yes, KKR have the back-up in Umesh and Woakes to strike early.
Arnab: As the great Sunil Gavaskar often says, IPL is a place where talent meets opportunity. And another player apart from Tripathi who has shown character is Pune's young spinner Washington Sundar. Even in the last game against MI, he gave away just 26 runs off his four overs and picked a wicket, despite bowling in the powerplay.
Baidurjo: Surely one of the rising talents in Indian cricket just like Kuldeep was a few seasons back. The IPL has over the years provided great platform for a number of players and this season is no different with the likes of Basil Thampi, Manan Vohra, Nitish Rana and Tripathi impressing among others.
Arnab: Similarly, Pune have also started rising the ladder every since the management found a balanced XI with everyone putting up their hands and contributing. Rahul Tripathi has been most impressive at the top. He wasn't the first-choice for RPS, but he has earned his place with quality knocks.
Baidurjo: If not Narine, KKR have Gambhir, Manish Pandey and Uthappa. They have all been in great form. One of the major reason behind KKR ruling in the top half is the combined show from every member of the team. Someone or the other has stepped things up in every game.
Arnab: Pune have two good spinners in Washington Sundar and Imran Tahir. Could well be that Steven Smith plays it smart and introduces them early in the KKR innings. Also, the slightly slow wicket in Pune will not allow Narine to free his arms at will.
Baidurjo: Talking of spin and spinners, Pune would be wary of the batting of KKR spinner Sunil Narine. Narine has been a revelation at the top and is striking the ball at 189.06 this season. He has scored 93 off 53 balls against the pacers and is clearly relishing the opportunity at the top.
Arnab: That is an important stat you just mentioned. Spin has held the edge at the MCA Stadium with spinners bowling at an economy rate of just 6.97. On the other hand, pacers have bowled at an economy of 9.50. No wonder Gauti decided to rest Coulter-Nile.
Baidurjo: Interestingly, KKR are on such a high that Gambhir decided to rest RCB match's star performer Nathan Coulter-Nile. Shows the depth this team has. Clearly one between Shakib and Boult will make it to the playing XI. With the Pune wicket helping spinners more, Shakib could get the nod.
Arnab: Yes, no way anyone can deny that it was a stellar of a game. But again, Pune finally look like they have found the right balance to the team. With Rahane and Tripathi starting well and Smith, Dhoni and Tiwary doing well in the middle, the batting looks sorted. In the bowling too, Stokes and Tahir have led the challenge well.
Baidurjo: But nothing beats the confidence that Gambhir and his boys will carry into this game after dismissing RCB for 49. What a game and what leadership skills on display. Kolkata Knight Riders are on a high and they will not give Pune an inch. Surely keen to cement their place at the top of the table by beating Pune.
Arnab: Yes, two teams fighting it out having come out triumphant in their last game. Looks like a quality game in the offing. And Pune will definitely hope to use the home advantage to cement their place ahead of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the top 3. Smith and his boys are surely up for it.
Hi, I am Baidurjo Bhose, cricket correspondent of Cricketnext, and I have with me our editor Arnab Sen. Kolkata are on a roll having thrashed last year’s finalists RCB in their last game while Pune beat Mumbai Indians in the Maharashtra derby.
Looks like an interesting clash where I will be batting for KKR and Arnab will defend Pune.
