Gayle's struck a majestic 38-ball 77 that included five fours and seven huge sixes and in doing so, he also became the first player ever to register 10,000 runs in the shortest format of the game.

New Delhi: Self-proclaimed 'Universe Boss' Chris Gayle roared back to life in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after his stunning half-century helped Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Gujarat Lions by 21 runs in the tenth edition of the league on Wednesday.

Gayle's struck a majestic 38-ball 77 that included five fours and seven huge sixes and in doing so, he also became the first player ever to register 10,000 runs in the shortest format of the game.

Gayle brought up his half-century with a trademark maximum straight down the ground and his celebration was a good as the shot itself.

The West Indian mimicked 'Salt-Bae' — the Turkish Chef who became an overnight internet sensation because of his different salt-adding technique. Gayle went down onto his knees after completing his fifty and performed the similar trick, much to the delight of his fans.

Gayle is not new to spectacular celebrations as after hitting a century against Kings XI Punjab in IPL-8, the West Indian performed the much-famed Cristiano Ronaldo celebration.

This innings will certainly boost Gayle's confidence in the league as in the previous games, he had been quite average. In the three matches before this match against Gujarat Lions, Gayle ended up with scores of 22, 6, 32.

RCB next take on two-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders in their seventh clash of the season at the Eden Gardens on April 23.
