Match 55, Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi 20 May, 2018

Toss won by Delhi Daredevils (decided to bat)

Delhi Daredevils beat Mumbai Indians by 11 runs

Man of the Match: Amit Mishra

VICTORY FOR DELHI: Harshal Patel gets Jasprit Bumrah and that's the end of the match. Mumbai Indians lose the match by 11 runs. That marks the end of Mumbai's campaign in this year's IPL. What a match this turned out to be.

WICKET: Harshal Patel to bowl the final over. And that's a disastrous start for Delhi. He bowls a short one and Cutting pulls it for a maximum. But on the very next ball he makes up for it. Cutting, in a bid to go for another big one gives a simple catch to Maxwell. He departs for 37 from 20 balls.Mumbai need 12 from 4 balls.

WICKET: Boult to bowl the penultimate over here. And what works in Delhi's favour is that Markande is on strike. But the fielders have let Delhi down. They let the Mumbai batsmen sneak a single. But Boult does the trick and denies cutting any boundary. He finishes the over with Markande's wicket as he departs for 3. it's 157/8 after 19 overs. Mumbai need 18 from 6 balls.

This match is not over yet. Plunkett bowls the wrong line and it's easy pickings for Cutting. He hits a four through mid wicket and follows it up with a straight six. He is not done as yet as Cutting muscles a slower one from the bowler down long on for a four. 15 runs come from the over. It's 152/7 after 18 overs. Mumbai need23 from 12 balls.

Boult comes to bowl the 17th over. On this slow pitch, both the new batsmen—Cutting and Markande—are finding it difficult to strike big. But Ben finally connects one and sends the ball into the orbit. That's a much-needed six for Mumbai. 11 runs come from the over. It's 137/7 after 17 overs. They need 38 runs from 18 balls.

Lamichhane comes for his last over. He has been brilliant in the match and has taken away the match from Mumbai. He has troubled each and every batsman alike. No one has really picked his googly. Just four runs come from the over. It's 126/7 after 16 overs. Mumbai need 49 runs from 24 balls.

WICKET: Amit Mishra strikes again. It's happening all too quickly for Delhi. Very smart bowling from the leggie as he flights the ball and invites the Pandya into a big shot. The ball takes the edge, and goes straight into the hands of Tewatia. Pandya departs for 27. It's 122/7 after 15 overs.

    Aakash Chopra, Cricket Pundit 19:29(IST)

Hardik is playing the match-defining innings today....came in at 78/5 and is scoring at almost 200. Allowing Rohit to bide time too. #DDvMI #IPL

WICKET: Deja Vu. Patel has a wicket here. The partnership of Maxwell and Boult have done it once again. The former takes the catch while crossing the boundary and throws the towards Boult, who completes the catch to dismiss Rohit. That's a big wicket for Delhi. It's 121/6 after 14 overs.

Trent Boult starts a fresh over. And Rohit Sharma finally gets into the act. He opens the face of the bat and guides the ball to third man for a four. In what was looking like a decent over by Boult, Iyer makes a blunder and takes a shy at the stumps. The ball goes over the boundary for five runs. On the last ball of the over Pandya plays a flick for a four. That's 17 runs from the over. It's 116 for 5 after 13 overs.

Pandya greets Lamichhane with a towering six over long on. On the very next ball it's a four through extra cover. Mumbai need a lot more of those, and Pandya is certainly the man to do it. He needs to take as much of strike as possible. 13 runs come from the over. It's 99/5 after 12 overs.

That's another quiet over from Amit Mishra. The problem with Mumbai right now is that they have to rebuild their innings once again, and the time is running out for them. 6 runs come from the over. It's 86/5 after 11 overs.

An eventful over comes to an end. Two wickets and six runs come from the over. The fall of the wicket brings Hardik Pandya to the crease. Now the onus is on him to deliver, when his skipper is not 100%. But for now, it looks like Delhi will derail Mumbai's campaign.

WICKET: Another one bites the dust. This time it's Krunal Pandya. The batsman tried the ball to guide towards off side, but instead gives a simple catch to Rahul Tewatia. Lamichhane is one fire here. It's 78/5.

WICKET: And here is another acrobatic catch close from the boundary. Pollard tries to hit Lamichhane over long on for a six, but Maxwell grabs a blinder, moves out of boundary and throws the ball towards Boult in time. That's brilliant by Delhi. It's 74/4.

WICKET: The absence of Rohit Sharma has not helped Mumbai's chances here. They are looking short on confidence at the moment. Amit Mishra has kept up the pressure in this over too. Finally some respite for Mumbai as Lewis hits a six through mid wicket. And on the very next ball gets stumped on a googly. Lewis departs for 48. Mumbai 74/3 in 9 overs.

Plunkett is keeping it tight at the moment. Mumbai is losing track after a quickfire start. Evin Lewis is hit on the helmet by the bowler as the physio comes out to check him. Both the batsmen are not running well between the wickets. It's 66/2 after 8 overs.

Mishra has started off beautifully here. The veteran leggie has confused the new batsman Keiron Pollard. He fails to judge a leg-spinner and edges the ball to the slips. But Prithvi Shaw somehow manages to drop it. 7 runs come from the over. It's 61/2 after 7 overs.

WICKET: Amit Mishra has a wicket here. Right after the strategic timeout, Ishan Kishan falls for 5. He tries to play a big shot against the leg-spinner, but the ball doesn't have enough legs to cross the rope. Vijay Shankar takes a good catch. It's 57/2.

Liam Plunkett comes into the attack. It was a good over for Delhi as just 7 runs come from it. He prevents Lewis and Kishan to score a boundary. Now Delhi need some wickets to derail Mumbai run-chase. It's 57/1 after 6 overs.

Evin Lewis is turning turning on the heat right now. He hits Maxwell for a big six over long off. He has judged the line of the bowler and hits him for another six in the over. Lewis is taking away the match from Delhi. 16 runs come from the over. It's 50/1 after 5 overs.

17 RUNS: Shreyas Iyer is rotating his bowlers well. Harshal Patel gets an over. On the very first ball he is greeted by Lewis with a four thorough the covers. he follows it up with a lofted drive on the off side. He doesn't stop there and muscles the ball for a big six through mid wicket. That's a big over for Mumbai as 17 runs come from it. It's 34/1 after 4 overs.

There's a change in bowling already. Glenn Maxwell comes to roll his arm over. He delivers a clean over, as both the batsmen try to attack him but fail. Maxwell adjusts his line well to stop the batsmen from playing attacking shots. Just three runs come from the over. It's 17/1 after 3 overs.

Trent Boult starts the proceedings from the other end. And he is right on the money. Boult just gives away one run in the entire over and bowled tight lines to Ishan Kishan. He manages to beat the batsman on a few ocassions too. This is good stuff by Delhi. It' 14/1 after 2 overs.

An eventful Lamichhane over comes to an end. The leg-spinner bowled inviting lines to the batsmen, but was awarded for his persistence. This wicket will give a lot of confidence to Delhi going forward in the match. 13 runs and a wicket come from the over. It's 13/1 .

WICKET: Opening the bowling for Delhi will be Sandeep Lamichhane. And Yadav starts off with a cracking four and a six through the leg side. But Yadav falls for 12 as he gives a straightforward catch to Vijay Shankar.  It's 12/1.

15 runs from the Cutting over as Delhi Daredevils finish on 174/4 after 20 overs with Shankar unbeaten on 43 off 30 balls as Abhishek Sharma hits a 10-ball 15. This is definitely a good score on this sluggish wicket and Pant is the highest scorer in the innings on expected lines. Can Mumbai win this and go into the knockouts?

8 runs from the Bumrah over as Delhi Daredevils looked to play out the over from the pace sprearhead. But two wides ensuring that DD still manage to get a decent over without risking anything. Rohit hurts his shoulder and goes off the field here. The impact was on the right shoulder and now some ice pack on the left shoulder. The score reads 159/4

11 runs from the Mustafizur over as Abhishek Sharma launches one into the wide long-on stands. This guy has impressed a lot and it comes as a big surprise why they did not use him earlier in the campaign. The score reads 151/4 after 18 overs. These last 2 overs are crucial for DD.

WICKET!!!! Krunal gets the big wicket of Rishabh Pant for 64 as Pollard takes a good catch at the long-on boundary. This is a vital wicket for the Mumbai Indians as the game is headed towards the death overs in the Delhi innings. Another good knock from the wicket-keeper as the score reads 139/4 in the 17th over.

The cash-rich league is still alive and kicking with only Sunrisers Hyderabad (18 from 13 games), Chennai Super Kings (16 from 13 games) and Kolkata Knight Riders having clinched play-off spots. Statistically, three teams save Daredevils and RCB are still contention, with a play-off spots still up for grabs. In the mid-table clutter, Mumbai Indians are among the teams who are at 12 points and fighting for a spot in the play-off.

However the performance in the past few matches is sure to have boosted the confidence of Rohit Sharma and his men. Mumbai had a topsy-turvy campaign so far as after a series of defeats early in the tournament, they were able to string in the victories when it mattered most. However Daredevils can be the banana peel and Mumbai Indians will be wary after CSK slipped in their penultimate game. For DD, there is nothing but pride at stake, which makes the young team dangerous oppositions. The last time the two teams faced off, it was DD won by seven wickets win in a last-over thriller.
