Kolkata Knight Riders take on Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator of the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday. While KKR finished third on the table, Rajasthan just managed to sneak into the playoffs after Kings XI Punjab failed to beat CSK. Now, as they look to face-off in the Eliminator, both teams will look at their captains to lead from the front. But it has been a story of contrasting fortunes as far as Kolkata skipper Dinesh Karthik and his Rajasthan counterpart Ajinkya Rahane is concerned.

Karthik has been one of the stand-out performers for KKR this season. Karthik has scored 438 runs this season, 114 runs more than his counterpart Rahane. Rahane has a strike rate of 119.11 this season, whereas DK has a superior strike rate of 149.48 in 14 matches.

There have been a plenty of bests for DK this season. He has his best average in the IPL this year at 54.75. Even his strike rate of 149.48 is his best over the years. He has had the best balls/boundary rate: 5.05 balls per boundary. If DK manages to score 73 runs in this innings, it will be his highest scoring IPL season. His previous best scoring season was in 2013 when he scored 510 runs. DK has hit 14 sixes, which are his joint most number of sixes hit in a single season. DK first hit 14 sixes in the 2013 season.

On the other hand, this season will be the second time in Rahane’s IPL career where he has so far managed to score only a single fifty plus score (min 5 matches in a season).

Apart from this, Rahane needs 1 more catch to complete 50 catches in the IPL, 9 more runs to reach 4500 runs in T20s and is 2 runs away from becoming Rajasthan’s leading run-getter in the IPL. Karthik on the other hand is 36 runs away from reaching 5000 T20 runs.
