HIGHLIGHTS

  • 23:46 (IST)

RCB WINS: Moeen Ali comes for the final over. And Rana fails to connect. Probably the 20-ball 9 from Uthappa is hurting them at the moment. And Russell gets the strike and he hits Ali for a straight six. And finally he misses. This is all over for KKR. And on the penultimate ball he is run out for 65 off 24 balls. And Rana ends with a six. KKR end on 203/5. They lose by 10 runs.

  • 23:40 (IST)

SIX: Into the 19th over now and Stoinis comes into the attack. He is coming up with an excellent over as just one run has come from three balls. Looks like it's all over for KKR. But not yet, as he pulls Stoinis for a flat six. Make it two in two as now he goes over the bowler's head for a six. That's a fifty for him as gets to the milestone in just 21 balls. It's 184/4 after 18.5 overs.

  • 23:33 (IST)

SIX: Rana is playing a gem of an innings. He hits Steyn past long off for a six. This chase is still possible as Rana plays a shot over the bowler's head. No matter what the outcome of the match is, Rana and Russell have batted beautifully. It's 167/.4 in 17.5 overs.

  • 23:26 (IST)

DRE RUS: Russell is unstoppable at the moment. He clears his front leg and murders the ball through point for a four. Siraj is feeling the pressure now. And the following ball he tonks the ball into the stands. Looks like we have lost the ball in the crowd here. It's 151/4 after 16.3 overs.

  • 23:21 (IST)

If KKR lose this by 10 -20 runs - one would have to look back at Utthapa innings and wonder what was going on - how can one have such a low strike rate while chasing such a big score.

  • 23:18 (IST)

FIFTY FOR RANA: Another good start for Rana in Saini over as he slashes for four through long on. Are we seeing another special from Russell here. Make it another six from Rana and he brings up his fifty. What an innings this has been from the youngster. And he doesn't end here and goes another six. What is happening out here. It's 138/4 after 15.5 overs.

  • 23:13 (IST)

SIX, SIX: This match is still not over till the time Russell is out there in the middle. He doesn't connect well and still gets three big sixes. 20 runs come from the over as KKR move to 121/4 in 20 overs.

  • 23:04 (IST)

It’s been an unusual innings from Robbie . He had to try and get the scoreboard moving a lot earlier .. if he got out in the process - so be it ...Now Russel will need to play a blinder - but if there is one player in this years ipl who can do that - it’s him.

  • 22:56 (IST)

WICKET!! Robin Uthappa's miserable innings comes to an end. This might well be KKR's only chance to come back into the game. Uthappa looks to pull that but doesn't get it from the middle. Hits it straight to Negi who takes a simple catch. Uthappa departs for 9 off 20 balls

  • 22:20 (IST)

WICKET! That's the reason Kohli went for that extra over to Steyn. He gets his second wicket as Gill looks to go over the top but ends up hitting it to Kohli, who fumbles but somehow manages to hang onto the catch. Delight for RCB, KKR are 33/3 and in all sorts of trouble.

  • 22:13 (IST)

WICKET! Saini does the trick for RCB here, fast and short from the pacer. Narine looks to pull but gets a thick top edge and Parthiv Patel completes a simple catch. Narine departs for 18 and KKR are 24/2

  • 22:08 (IST)

Narine is having a go at every delivery that he is facing. With that approach he does manage to get two fours off Steyn, but that involves a lot of risk too. It looks like RCB are not very far away from a wicket at the moment. In fact make that three fours as he top edges one and the ball goes to third man for a four. It's 23/1 after 3 overs.

  • 21:59 (IST)

OUT: What a start by Dale Steyn upon his return to RCB colours. He pitches the ball up and swings it away from Lynn. The batsman edges it but Stoinis misses it. But in the same over he goes as he gives a simple catch to Kohli. He goes for 1 as KKR are 6/1.

SIX, SIX: This match is still not over till the time Russell is out there in the middle. He doesn't connect well and still gets three big sixes. 20 runs come from the over as KKR move to 121/4 in 20 overs.

23:09 (IST)

Saini starts a fresh over and Russell starts it with a four through to the covers. On the fourth ball of the over he gets a short-picth ball and Russell tries to go for a big one. But Klaasen doesn't reach the ball in time. That brings up 100 for them. 7 runs come from the over as KKR are 101/4 after 14 overs.

23:04 (IST)

It’s been an unusual innings from Robbie . He had to try and get the scoreboard moving a lot earlier .. if he got out in the process - so be it ...Now Russel will need to play a blinder - but if there is one player in this years ipl who can do that - it’s him.

23:02 (IST)

Chahal comes into the attack now and he is swept for a four by Rana. And then there is six through covers by Russell too. With dew coming into play, it could be another difficult night for the bowlers. 13 runs come from the over, it's 94/4.

22:56 (IST)

WICKET!! Robin Uthappa's miserable innings comes to an end. This might well be KKR's only chance to come back into the game. Uthappa looks to pull that but doesn't get it from the middle. Hits it straight to Negi who takes a simple catch. Uthappa departs for 9 off 20 balls

22:55 (IST)

DROPPED! Yuzvendra Chahal should have caught that one, top edge from Rana and it goes flying down to fine leg. Chahal seems to have misjudged and in the end has to rush forward but the ball falls just short

22:52 (IST)

Robin Uthappa needs to be dismissed here for the betterment of his own team, Rana gets a couple of boundaries in the over there and then gets a single. Uthappa just not able to score, he is batting on 9 off 19 balls. That's just criminal at this stage. KKR are 72/3 after 11 overs

22:47 (IST)

Atleast some intent from the KKR batsmen here, they are helped by 5 wides as Siraj bowls one which manages to beat everyone and runs away to the boundary. Uthappa and Rana also getting a boundary in the over. KKR are 60/3 after 10 overs

22:43 (IST)

This looks like a bridge too far now .. but Kkr need to be mindful on net run rate . That will play a key role for that 4th spot qualification

22:40 (IST)

It's strategic time out here and someone needs to tell the KKR batsmen what they are chasing on this wicket. Absurd tactics to say the least, playing dot balls and then only taking singles. They don't look like getting anywhere close to the target here. They are currently 46/3

22:35 (IST)

Not happening for KKR at the moment, the required run rate increasing steadily here and is already above 14 rpo. One of these two needs to get going quickly if KKR are to have a chance

22:28 (IST)
22:24 (IST)

FOUR! Rana atleast ends the powerplay on a positive note for the home team but another excellent over from Siraj as he bowls outside the offstump and maintains tight line & length to bowl five dot balls. Concedes a boundary on the last ball. Still KKR are only 37/3 after 6 overs

22:20 (IST)

22:18 (IST)

FInely clipped by Shubhman Gill towards the leg-side and that runs away on the fast outfield here, Chahal does well to cut that off. Interesting that Kohli is going for Steyn to bowl his third over in the poweplay here!

22:13 (IST)

WICKET! Saini does the trick for RCB here, fast and short from the pacer. Narine looks to pull but gets a thick top edge and Parthiv Patel completes a simple catch. Narine departs for 18 and KKR are 24/2

22:08 (IST)

It looks like RCB are not very far away from a wicket at the moment. In fact make that three fours as he top edges one and the ball goes to third man for a four. It's 23/1 after 3 overs.

22:04 (IST)

Navdeep Saini starts from the other end and he is hit for a four by Narine as he clears his back leg. But he comes back well in the over and doesn't give much room to freeze arms. It's 11 /1 after 2 overs.

22:02 (IST)
21:59 (IST)

OUT: What a start by Dale Steyn upon his return to RCB colours. He pitches the ball up and swings it away from Lynn. The batsman edges it but Stoinis misses it. But in the same over he goes as he gives a simple catch to Kohli. He goes for 1 as KKR are 6/1.

IPL 2019, KKR vs RCB Match at Eden Gardens - Highlights: As it Happened

Follow all the live cricket score and latest updates from the game between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Eden Gardens: Into the 19th over now and Stoinis comes into the attack.

"That's something only the coaches and captain can answer. We can only answer from our position and from an opposition point of view, we try to exploit their weaknesses. And if there is over reliance on any players, you try to exploit that by putting pressure on them."

KKR will take on RCB looking for a win badly to snap their three-game losing streak.

Asked about RCB's travails, Katich opined the team may have not been able to gel together as a unit and don't seem clear in the way they want to play despite having star players in their arsenal.

KKR vs RCB in IPL 2019 will be broadcast on Friday (April 19) from 8:00 PM onwards. KKR vs RCB live streaming will be available on Hotstar and Jio TV. You can follow all the ball-by-ball updates and live commentary with analysis on our live blog.

PREVIEW: Buoyed by his selection to the 2019 World Cup squad, Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Dinesh Karthik will be setting his sights on bringing home an IPL title. But Karthik & Co know they are far from securing a playoff berth yet, after four wins and four losses in their first eight games. KKR will host IPL 2019’s bottom-placed side Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Eden Gardens on Friday evening. There is however, a major injury concern for KKR with their most explosive player — Andre Russell — being hit on the shoulder with a bouncer during practice on Wednesday.

What makes it even more worrying is that it was the same shoulder that was hit by Delhi Capitals’ Harshal Patel during a game at the Ferozeshah Kotla a week ago. Although the team has ruled out any major injury, Russell remains doubtful for the clash against RCB. The West Indies all-rounder is the leading run-scorer for KKR this season with 312 runs in eight games at a strike-rate of 213.69. The rest of the KKR batting line-up have been quite inconsistent although Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa have notched up 212 and 211 runs respectively.

Virat Kohli’s RCB will be pleased by the addition of Dale Steyn to the line-up after the South African paceman joined up with the squad in Kolkata. Steyn will add much-needed firepower to the floundering RCB bowling attack which has largely struggled barring leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Steyn’s former teammate AB de Villiers has led a lone charge for the RCB this season with 307 runs in eight games, including four half-centuries. Skipper Kohli will need to step up to the plate more consistently if Bangalore hope to turn the tables on KKR.

Players to watch out for

Chris Lynn: The Australian opener is finally starting to find his range. Lynn was the most destructive batsman for KKR against Chennai Super Kings in their last game, scoring a season-high 82 in the match. The opener loves pace on the ball and RCB will provide plenty of that thanks to their pace attack.

AB de Villiers: Mr 360 has been largely subdued in IPL so far this season. Although he has scored fifties, he has failed to leave his mark on a contest. On a beautiful batting track at the Eden, De Villiers will love to make merry and change the floundering fortunes of his side.

Team News/Availability

KKR: All-rounder Russell looks doubtful for the clash after the hit he took in the nets on his shoulder. Joe Denly, picked in preliminary England World Cup squad on Wednesday, might step in for Russell if the Jamaican misses out.

RCB: Steyn is finally available for the Bangalore franchise. The South African should be a part of the XI at the expense of New Zealand’s Tim Southee.

Predicted playing XI

KKR: Dinesh Karthik (captain), Sunil Narine, Andre Russell/Joe Denly, Lockie Ferguson, Chris Lynn, Robin Uthappa, Kuldeep Yadav, Piyush Chawla, Nitish Rana, Shubman Gill and Prasidh Krishna.

RCB: Virat Kohli (captain), Parthiv Patel (wk), AB de Villiers, Umesh Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Mohammed Siraj, Navdeep Saini, Pawan Negi and Dale Steyn
