IPL 2021: RCB's Mike Hesson Glad with Virat Kohli's Announcement after England Series

Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) Director of Cricket Operations Mike Hesson was glad that there will be no more questions regarding Team India and RCB captain Virat Kohli's batting position in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Kohli, who has shuffled between opening the innings and batting at No.3 for RCB, said at the end of the fifth T20I against England that he will be opening the innings for RCB as well this season, and Hesson was glad that it puts an end to all the questions.

"Well that will hopefully stop one of the consistent questions," Hesson replied to RCB's post on Instagram.

Kohli had opened the innings in the last T20I against England along with Rohit Sharma and the pair gave India a lightning start before Rohit fell. The Indian skipper however, hung in there and played the anchor's role to finish not out on 80 (52 balls) as India posted a mammoth 224/2 from their 20 overs.

Seeing Kohli at the top, former England captain Michael Vaughan also suggested that he should bat at the top for RCB.

"He (Kohli) could bat anywhere but I think they (India and RCB) have found something. I think RCB will be a lot stronger by having him at the top of the order," Vaughan said on Cricbuzz Live.

Kohli has earlier opened for RCB along with Chris Gayle and Aaron Finch but it seems like this time around he will don the role full-time to allow an extra all-rounder in the team. The 32-year-old is likely to open with Devdutt Padikkal, who also has been in sensational form for Karnataka and was one of the finds of last season in the United Arab Emirates. Padikkal had scored 473 runs from 15 games at an average of 31.53.

RCB will play their first game of the season on the opening day against Mumbai Indians at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium on April 9 in Chennai.
