CSK WIN: That's a comfortable victory for CSK in the end as Dhoni pulls Mohit Sharma for a six. This is great stuff by Dhoni and CSK. They have registered  a win in testing conditions.

23:45 (IST)

50 FOR RAINA: Tye's bad day continues as he Raina pulls him for a six on the very first ball of the 19th over. A six through long on takes him to yet another half century in the tournament. He follows it up with two boundaries. That's poor bowling by Tye. 22 runs come from the over. It's 153/5. CSK need 1 from 6 balls.

23:40 (IST)

KXIP would now be playing to salvage some pride here. They are taking their time to get through the overs despite knowing they won't advance to the playoffs even if they win. Mohit Sharma comes up with a good over. As many as two catches fall short of the fielders in this over. But Dhoni ends the over with a cracking four towards mid wicket. 11 runs come from the over. It's 131/5 after 18 overs. CSK need 23 runs from 12 balls.

23:32 (IST)

Finally MS Dhoni comes out to bat. He gets off the mark with a single down to mid on. Chahar has ensured that he takes CSK closer to the total and bring the required run rate down. Ashwin gives 6 runs in the over. It's 120/5. CSK need 34 runs from 18 balls.

23:29 (IST)

WICKET: Deepak Chahar departs after a well made 39 from 20 balls. He tries to hit Ashwin for another six, but instead edges the ball. Mohit Sharma takes an easy catch. It's 114/5.

23:27 (IST)

Chahar continues to gets his third six of the innings. This guy can bat for sure. He is slowly taking CSK closer to the total. Axar patel gives 12 runs in his over. It's 114/4 in 16 overs.

23:23 (IST)

100 UP: And Deepak Chahar has decided to go for his shots now. He hits R Ashwin for back to back sixes. And KXIP are knocked out of the tournament, and Rajasthan are through. Chahar ends the over with a four through extra cover. That's 21 runs from the over. It's 102/4 after 15 overs.

23:20 (IST)

Although a win looks some distance away for CSK, they have almost prevented KXIP from qualifying for the playoffs. These two batsmen are in no hurry and taking singles off Axar Patel. 6 runs come from the over. It's 81/4 after 14 overs.

23:14 (IST)

That's a quick over from R Ashwin. Not only he finishes the over quickly, but doesn't allow the batsmen to settle down. As a result of that just three runs come from the over. CSK 75/4 after 13 overs. KXIP need to restrict CSK to 99 or below to qualify for the playoffs.

23:12 (IST)

Tye has looked out of sorts here as he bowls another wide. He hasn't looked threatening at all till now. Still he manages to give just 8 runs in the over. It's 72/4 in 12 overs.

23:06 (IST)

Another surprise here from CSK. Still no signs of MS Dhoni at the moment as Deepak Chahar comes to the crease. Meanwhile, Ashwin delivers a great over and produces a much-needed wicket. It's 64/4 after 11 overs.

23:03 (IST)

WICKET: For the very first time Ashwin comes into the attack and produces a wicket. He traps Harbhajan in front of the wicket. The batsman departs for 19. CSK 58/4.

23:01 (IST)

Punjab need some wickets again. Saving up runs won't help them. Though Axar has been bowling tight lines, he hasn't managed to produce anything special till now. 6 runs come from the over. It's 58/3 after 10 overs.

22:55 (IST)

It's time for another Tye over. Although hes has been bowling tight line, he has been giving a few extras. That's not helping KXIPs case here. 7 runs come from the over as Raina and Harbhajan look to steady CSK ship. It's 52/3 after 9 overs.

22:48 (IST)

Axar Patel comes into the attack. And on the third ball of the over Harbhajan sweeps, gets an edge and a four too. He has been living dangerously here. 5 runs come from the over. It's 45/3 after 8 overs.

22:44 (IST)

Rajpoot comes for his final over. On the very first ball Harbhajan walks down the track to negate the swing, but the bowler drops the ball short. The ball narrowly misses the stumps. After some misses, Harbhajan connects and hits the six over long on. 7 runs come from the over. It's 40/3 after 7 overs.

22:38 (IST)

Mohit Sharma starts a fresh over. And Harbhajan has clearly been sent out with a mission. He just gets his front leg out of the way and the batsman just smashes the ball for a four through extra cover. Six runs come from the over. It's 33/3 after 6 overs.

22:34 (IST)

What a dramatic over. Rajpoot gets two key wickets in the over and nearly gets Harbhajan Singh on the last ball too. But Finch drops the ball in the slips. KXIP certainly have their tails up. That was double wicket maiden from him. It's 27/3 after 5 overs.

22:31 (IST)

WICKET: That's a peach of a delivery. That ball took Sam Billings by total surprise. The ball comes in to the batsmen instead of going away, and hits the timber. This disaster for CSK as Billings goes for a duck. It's 27/3 and Rajpoot is on a hattrick.

22:28 (IST)

WICKET: Rajpoot is bowling like a dream. He curled the ball away from the batsman and Du Plessis edges the ball to Chris Gayle in slips. KXIP need many more like these. Its 27/2.

22:23 (IST)

There is a change in bowling. Andrew Tye starts with bowling wrong lines to Suresh Raina and pitches it to full. He is smacked to back to back boundaries. A couple of wides don't help either. 10 runs come from the over. CSK 27/1 after 4 overs.

22:18 (IST)

Rajpoot starts another over. He's bowling well and getting the ball to move away from the batsmen and manages to get an edge from du Plessis. But the ball flies for a four. He's living dangerously here. And he ends the over with a four through extra cover. That makes it nine runs in the over. CSK 17/1 after 3 overs.

22:12 (IST)

A successful over from Mohit Sharma comes to end and KXIP couldn't have asked for a better start. With Rayudu already gone, the KXIP pacers would look to pepper new man Suresh Raina with some short stuff. On the last ball of the over du Plessis gets a boundary down long off. It's 8/1 after 2 overs.

22:08 (IST)

WICKET: What a brilliant start for Mohit Sharma. He picks the danger man Ambati Rayudu for 1. The ball swings enough to take the edge, and Rahul takes a simple catch. It's 3/1.

22:06 (IST)

Rajpoot is right on the money in the very first over. He gets the ball to swing just enough to trouble the batsmen. Just three runs come from the first over. CSK 3/0 after one over.

22:01 (IST)

So CSK openers Ambati Rayudu and Faf Du Plessis make way to the middle. Ankit Rajpoot will open the proceedings for KXIP. They really need a special effort to pull off a win here. They need to win by at least 53 runs to go through the playoffs.

21:47 (IST)

WICKET! That's that then, Rajpoot is the final player to walk back now. Kings XI Punjab are dismissed for 153 here, and that means they need to restrict Chennai to below 100 to qualify for playoffs here.

21:43 (IST)

WICKET! Bravo finally gets a wicket here, goes around the wicket and bowls a brilliant yorker, Nair looks to scoop out but gets it from bottom half of the bat and straight to mid-off. He departs for 54 and Kings XI are 150/9

21:42 (IST)

SIX! He brings uo his half-century in some style here, Bravo again going for runs at the death here. Not been the best of bowling, Kings XI also reach 150 herea

PREVIEW CSK vs KXIP: Kings XI Punjab will face the uphill task of not only pulling the rug from under the feet of formidable Chennai Super Kings but also boosting their net run rate in the last IPL round-robin match to salvage any hopes of sneaking into the play-offs. Punjab had started the season with a string of wins before going off the boil. Currently placed at the seventh position with 12 points, Kings XI still have a slender chance of making it to the play-off. But Punjab will have the advantage of knowing exactly what they need to do to make a last-ditch effort to steal a play-off berth. It has been a story of individual brilliance for Punjab who have failed to click as a team. Only KL Rahul (652 runs) has been scoring runs in a heap but none of the other batsmen have played to their potential on a consistent basis.

Kings XI had come agonisingly close in securing a win against Mumbai Indians in their last outing before a last-minute slip saw the defending champions seal the contest by three runs in the last over. Chris Gayle played some superb knocks early in the tournament but he has looked inconsistent. Among others, Aaron Finch, Karun Nair, Marcus Stonis, Mayank Agarwal and Yuvraj Singh — all have failed to score runs when it mattered. Among bowlers, only Andrew Tye (24 wickets) has delivered along with injured rookie Afghan leggie Mujeeb Ur Rahman, which has hurt the side’s chances. If they have do the improbable, R Ashwin’s side would need a better show from their bowlers and batsmen alike in their last league game.

Squads: Kings XI Punjab: Ravichandran Ashwin (captain), Chris Gayle, Aaron Finch, Lokesh Rahul (wicketkeeper), Karun Nair, Mohit Sharma, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Barinder Sran, David Miller, Andrew Tye, Ankit Rajpoot, Axar Patel, Akshdeep Nath, Mayank Agarwal, Manoj Tiwary, Yuvraj Singh, Marcus Stoinis, Mayank Dagar.
Chennai Super Kings: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (captain/wicketkeeper), Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Faf Du Plessis, Harbhajan Singh, Dwayne Bravo, Shane Watson, Ambati Rayadu, Deepak Chahar, K M Asif, Kanish Seth, Lungi Ngidi, Dhruv Shorey, Murali Vijay, Sam Billings, Mark Wood, Kshtiz Sharma, Monu Kumar, Chaitanya Bishnoi, Imran Tahir, Karn Sharma, Shardul Thakur, N. Jagadeesan, David Willy.
