Ishant returns to bolster rejuvenated Delhi

Kolkata: Bolstered by paceman Ishant Sharma's return to the ranks, Delhi will look to seal a last-eight berth when they take on Bengal in their last round Ranji Trophy Super League encounter beginning at the Jadavpur University ground here on Tuesday.

A 10-wicket win in their last round encounter against Maharashtra revived the fortunes of Delhi who were languishing at the bottom of group B table till the turnaround came in.

Three points shy of third-placed Uttar Pradesh, Delhi would make it to the next round if they take a first innings lead and draw their match against Bengal, earning three points in the process.

Led by stand-in skipper Rajat Bhatia, their third captain of the season, Delhi have a strong medium pace line-up.

Ishant's return will definitely boost the fast bowling line-up which already has Pradeep Sangwan even though the Jadavpur strip promises to assist spinners with little grass on the pitch.

Delhi also boast of a strong middle-order with Bhatia, who made 99 in their win over Maharashtra, and Mithun Manhas lending experience to the side.

In absence of former India opener Aakash Chopra, who is down with fever, Ankur Julka and Aditya Jain are doing the makeshift duty and the side will look for a good foundation from the duo.
