I've never seen a pitch like this: Amla

Track will get worse, he feels.

Kanpur: Hashim Amla was one of the two South African batsmen to score a half-century on Day One of the third Test against India here. He believes it is hard work for the men with the willow on the breaking Green Park pitch, the like of which he has never seen.

“I have never seen a pitch like this. The ball is turning from the first day. It is going to be real hard work for the batsmen. The key is to play late but with the variable bounce life is going to be really tough as the match progresses,” said Amla.

Amla said though 265 was a decent total on this pitch but considering the start they had, the visitors would have like a few more runs on the board.

“We lost a few more wickets than we expected in the last session. We were looking for a bigger total,” he added.

On the remaining four days left Amla said: “I think the pitch will deteriorate as the game progresses. The cracks will open up and it will be hard work for the batsmen.”

Ishant Sharma’s deadly spell is an ominous sign for the Indians, felt Amla.

“Ishant bowled well. He cleaned up a few of our batsmen but there was variation in the bounce, which I think helped him. We will look forward to our pacers doing the same tomorrow,” warned Amla.
