Jasprit Bumrah Has Taken Leave to Prepare for Marriage: Report

Jasprit Bumrah has taken a few days off from the Indian team duties as he is getting married, according to a report in ANI. Bumrah was relieved from the Indian squad for the fourth Test for personal reasons and is set to miss the limited-overs series against England too.

“Speaking to ANI, sources in the BCCI in the know of developments have confirmed that the pacer is set to get married soon and has taken a leave to prepare for the same,” ANI reported. “He informed the BCCI that he is getting married and has taken the leave to help in preparations for the big day,” the source was quoted as saying.

Bumrah played the first Test in Chennai before being rested for the second Test, also at the same MA Chidambaram stadium in the city. He was brought back for the third Test, a pink-ball game, but was hardly needed as spinners did bulk of the work.

“Bumrah said I’m getting workload management while playing the game and Ishi said I’m playing my 100th game and not getting to bowl,” Kohli had joked after the 10-wicket win.

He has also been rested for the upcoming five-match T20I series.

The 27-year-old, who has emerged as India’s strike bowler across formats over the last couple of years, faced a serious back injury in late 2019 and missed the last four months of that year recuperating.

He returned in early January, 2020 and played for a couple of months before Covid-19 lockdown brought Indian cricket to a standstill. With about a couple of months of no practice, Bumrah started to practice gradually while doing nets at the Gujarat College ground here along with Parthiv Patel.

Since lockdown has ended, however, Bumrah has been in the thick of things both for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League as well as the India team in Tests and ODIs getting rested for the T20 Internationals in Australia.

The 27-year-old has bowled 277.1 overs in competitive cricket over the last five months.
