New Delhi: With India preparing for the first Test against Sri Lanka, starting Wednesday, newly appointed head coach Ravi Shastri posted a photo on Twitter and spoke about getting back to business with a great bunch. Interestingly, Kevin Pietersen had a question aimed at Shastri which asked: “Head coach again buddy?” Shastri is yet to reply to the query.

Earlier on Monday, spin spearhead R Ashwin revealed that Shastri has been a fabulous person to have in the dressing room and also reminded the scribes that it was the head coach — then team director — who picked the boys up and motivated them after they lost the opening Test in the 2015 series in Sri Lanka. India ultimately went on to win the series.

“I saw that question coming (smiles). We are past that moment, the decision has been made and the decision is not something that I can really comment on. But Ravi bhai has been a fabulous person to have in the dressing room. The last time we were here and we lost the Test in Galle, he was the one who picked us up from that low point of our careers. He is someone who can have a really positive influence in the dressing room. We are looking forward to working together,” he said.

Shastri, who was the team director between 2014 and 2016, had lost out to Anil Kumble for the top job after last year.

The position of coach was vacated after Anil Kumble resigned from the post after the end of the ICC Champions Trophy and decided not to re-apply. Kumble's decision was influenced by his deteriorating relationship with captain Virat Kohli as he confirmed on social media that he took the decision due to captain Kohli's reservations with his "style" and about him continuing as the head coach.

Shastri, during his tenure with the team as director had guided India to the semi-finals of the 2015 ICC World Cup and the 2016 ICC WT20. It was Shastri, who was at the helm of affairs, when Team India, under Kohli's leadership, blanked top ranked South Africa in a Test series at home.
