Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal: The Reason for India's Domination in South Africa

New Delhi: Spin twins Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have been in sensational form in the ongoing ODI series against South Africa and the visitors will hope that the duo will once again bamboozle the hosts when they take on the Proteas in the sixth and the final match in Centurion on Friday.

While the visitors' batting has garnered all the plaudits, that has seen then score four of their top five totals in South Africa in just this series itself, India's bowling has been top notch as well and the reason for that has been the emergence of Kuldeep and Chahal.

"They (Kuldeep & Chahal) have been brilliant. And they have not taken wickets on turners but on good wickets. It's a good thing for both of them. If they keep picking wickets like this than no one will be able to defeat India anywhere," legendary India skipper Sourav Ganguly was quoted as saying by India Today.

It is a big statement from Ganguly but it's hard to argue with him as numbers don't lie. Kuldeep and Chahal have picked up a combined 30 wickets in the five matches played so far in the series. These are the most number of wickets picked up by spinners in a bilateral series against South Africa in South Africa.

Moreover, the 30-wicket mark is also the most by Indian spinners in a bilateral series as they surpassed the previous record of 27 against England in 2006.

Kuldeep and Chahal also lead the list of most wickets taken in this series by a country mile. Kuldeep is currently the leading wicket-taker with 16 while Chahal has 14 to his name. The most prolific South Africa on this list is Lungi Ngidi, who is fourth on the list with just six scalps to his name.

"I don't have words to explain this. It's outstanding to see two guys (Kuldeep and Chahal) just totally spinning a web around the opposition. There doesn't seem to be a way out at all. It's unbelievable," Virat Kohli heaped praise on the duo after the series win.

"Credit to them. Both have been working hard on their game. Both are very brave in terms of how they bowl and the kind of fields they want as well. They are very brave tossing the ball and asking the batsman to come out and play a risky shot. Hats off to them but the other debate is a bit away from now. You never know what happens in the future but I am really happy at the moment," the Indian skipper added.
