Maldives Women Bowled Out for 6 in Massive 249 Run Defeat to Bangladesh

The Bangladesh women’s cricket team registered an incredible result on Thursday (December 5) when they bowled out Maldives for 6 runs and defeated them by 249 runs in the T20 competition in the South Asian Games at Pokhara.

One would not have guessed this is how the day would end for both sets of players as Bangladesh began by losing two quick wickets and seemingly in trouble.

But that’s when Nigar Sultana (113*) and Fargana Hoque (110*) stepped up to the plate and batted through the rest of the 18 overs.

Between them they clobbered the Maldives attack for 34 boundaries and three sixes in a partnership of 236 which propelled their total to massive 255/2 after 20 overs.

It got worse for Maldives from here on in as Bangladesh’s bowlers took control of the game and wasted very little time in finishing of the task.

Eight ducks, two scores of 1 and one of 2, apart from two runs as extras was all Maldives could manage in the 12.1 overs that they survived against their more fancied opponents.

Eashal Ibrahim, who faced 18 deliveries, along with Zoona Mariyam, the captain who played 14 deliveries, batted the longest for Maldives.

For Bangladesh, Ritu Moni and Salma Khatun both returned with three wickets a piece while Nahida Akter and Puja Chakraborty claimed a wicket each too as they won at a canter.
