Mangal helps Afghanistan book a ticket to 2016 World Twenty20

Afghanistan beat Papua New Guinea (PNG) by 6 wickets in the qualifying tournament to qualify for their fourth consecutive World T20 tournament to be held in India next year.

Afghanistan beat Papua New Guinea (PNG) by six wickets in the qualifying tournament at The Village in Malahide on Thursday to qualify for their fourth consecutive World Twenty20 tournament to be held in India next year.

Chasing a target of 128, Afghanistan lost Mohammad Shahzad early but Nawroz Mangal (65) and Asghar Stanikzai (22) steadied the ship as the Afghans went past the target in 18.2 over losing four wickets.

Mangal remained unbeaten with Najibullah Zadran (14*) as PNG failed to put up a good show.

Earlier, Shapoor Zadran, along with Mohammad Nabi, proved to be the pick of the bowlers for Afghanistan. Zadran returned with figures of 2 for 9 while Nabi finished his spell picking up one wicket for just 12 runs that restrited PNG to only 127.

Chasing a target of 149, Oman lost their way in the middle overs but Z Ahmed (51*) made sure that they make it to the next year’s World T20 by beating Namibia with a over to spare.

Earlier, Oman restricted Namibia to a score of 148, thanks to M Ansari and AV Lalcheta. While Ansari returned with figures of 3 for 23, Lalcheta also chipped away with a couple of wickets by conceding only 26 runs in his quota of 4 overs.

At the end Oman won by 5 wickets.
