One of the heroes of India’s U19 World Cup triumph in New Zealand has been none other than Manjot Kalra who carried his bat in the final with a century to his name.

Kalra stood up and made the moment his after captain fantastic Prithvi Shaw failed to be his impressive self once again against the Australians.

Kalra who was unbeaten at the end of the final on 101 has now joined an elite list. The left handed opening batsman is now one of very few to have scored a century in the final of the ICC U19 World Cup.

Kalra, who helped India go over the line in the final without breaking into a sweat, is the fifth cricketer ever to have scored a century in the final of the U19 World Cup final.

Tons

The Indian batsman who was not troubled at all in the final against the Australian bowling took his time to settle in before ensuring the final would be his show, is only the second Indian to have scored a ton in the final of this tournament. Previously it was Unmukt Chand who had the distinction, but now both he and Kalra can boast of the same record.

Chand who scored 111 against Australia in 2012, has the highest score ever in an U19 World Cup final, while Kalra joins the list as the fourth highest scorer on that list of the elite five batsmen.

Manjot Kalra who ended his day with a World Cup winners medal, added the icing on the cake when he was conferred the Man of the Match award in the historic summit clash.
