Manoj, Karun shine for Canada in tri-series

Canada defeated Bermuda by 25 runs in the opening match.

Toronto: Canada kicked off their tri-series campaign in style with a 25-run victory over Bermuda in the opening match at the Maple Leaf Cricket Club in King City, Ontario on Monday.

All-rounder Manoj David scored a well-paced 48 to power Canada to 260-7 after sent in to bat. In reply, Bermuda were restricted to 235-8.

Canada’s right hand batsman Karun Jethi chipped in with 46 from 36 balls, adding 73 for the eighth wicket stand with Harvir Baidwan who remained not out on 21.

Jekon Edness (45) and Chris Douglas (69) got Bermuda off to a good start. But after the dismissal of Edness as the visitors reached 123-1 in the 27th over, they struggled to stand the Canada bowling attack with wickets falling at regular intervals. David claimed two for 30 and Jethi two for 39 to shackle the Bermuda batting.

West Indies is the third country to participate in the tournament. They will take on Bermuda on Wednesday, the first encounter between the two nations in One-Dayers.
