Mitchell Starc to miss early stages of IPL 8

Starc will remain in Australia for two to three weeks of recuperation before joining Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Bangalore: Mitchell Starc, the Player of the 2015 World Cup, will miss the opening stages of the eighth edition of the Indian Premier League after suffering a knee injury.

Starc, who took 22 wickets in the World Cup at an average of 10.18 and an economy of 3.5, will remain in Australia for two to three weeks of recuperation before joining Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Starc’s performance in Australia’s World Cup triumph earned him the No. 1 ranking in One-Day Internationals for the first time in his career. With a hectic season ahead for Australian players that includes a Test tour of West Indies in June and the away Ashes series starting in July, he is unlikely to be rushed back into action, a report on the Cricket Australia website said.

Starc’s injury compounds Bangalore’s bowling woes with Adam Milne, the New Zealand pacer, also sidelined due to an injury to his left heel. In Starc’s absence, Varun Aaron and Ashok Dinda are expected to lead the attack, and Sean Abbott could make his IPL debut.

Speaking to Wisden India, a Bangalore official confirmed that the franchise hadn’t yet received an official word about the injury to Starc.

Starc picked up 14 wickets from as many matches giving away 7.49 per over for Bangalore in 2014.

Led by Virat Kohli, Bangalore begin their quest for a maiden IPL title with an away game against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 11.
