Indian Women's cricket team captain Mithali Raj is all set to get a brand new BMW, courtesy of Hyderabad District Badminton Association V Chamundeshwarnath.
Chamundi had also gifted a Chevrolet car to Mithali way back in 2007. But after India's performance at the World Cup, Chamundi said that the Indian skipper deserves a much bigger car. "Mithali has been a great influence on Indian cricket. The way she has led the side is remarkable. For a number of years she has been the leading light of the Indian women's cricket," Chamundi told a leading daily.
"Our girls are performing quite well. We need to encourage women's cricket in a big way. I think with their brilliant show in England they have brought a lot of attention to the women's game. More girls will be inspired to take up cricket now," Chamundi added.
Mithali Raj led Indian team made the nation proud, as it reached the final of the World Cup, defeating powerhouses like Australia along the way. Mithali scored 409 runs, She was at her best in a virtual quarter-final against New Zealand in Derby when she scored 109 to steer her side into the semifinals with a 186-run victory.
Her other notable scores in the tournament were 71 against England in the tournament opener in Derby, 46 against the West Indies in Taunton, 53 against Sri Lanka in Derby and 69 against Australia in Bristol.
Last August Chamundi gave away four BMW cars. Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar presented the cars to PV Sindhu, Sakshi Malik, Dipa Karmarkar and coach Pullela Gopichand at a small function held in Hyderabad.
Earlier Saina Nehwal, Parupalli Kashyap and a few other shuttlers were honoured with cars by Chamundi.
