New Delhi: Munaf Patel has been penalised 70 per cent of match fees after Delhi captain Virender Sehwag on Friday lodged an official complaint with the Match Referee against his India teammate Munaf Patel, accusing the lanky pacer of abusing him during the Irani Trophy match.
This was the incident caused all the commotion. Munaf had apparently abused Sehwag when he was batting and that miffed him, who felt enough was enough.
The Indian opener then lodged a complaint with Match Referee RR Jadeja, who allegedly had also foulmouthed Ishant Sharma in the match as well.
This is not the first time that Munaf has found himself in a spot of bother. During the recent ODI series in Sri Lanka, Munaf was found guilty of verbally abusing Gamini Silva after the Lankan umpire had turned down a leg before appeal.
Match Referee Chris Broad subsequently fined Munaf 75 per cent of his match fee for using "language that is obscene, offensive or of a seriously insulting nature."
