Mumbai: Sri Lankan off-spinner Muthiah Muralitharan has captured Sachin Tendulkar’s Test wicket seven times, which is highest by any bowler.
“I am happy with that. I have no regrets," the 36-year-old told Cricketnext from Colombo, adding, “It is always difficult to bowl at him."
The legend, who has taken 756 wickets in 123 Tests was all praise for the master blaster.
“He is a great player and I am happy for his world record. It is a great achievement by him," said Murali.
However, he admitted that Sri Lanka made special efforts to ensure that Tendulkar was not allowed to break the world record during India’s Lankan tour last month.
“Yes, we were determined not to allow him to do this record against us in the last season. Had he been successful (in creating world record) at that time, we would not have won the Test series against India."
Sri Lanka won the series three-match Test series 2-1 and Tendulkar was left 77 runs short of reaching the milestone.
Muralitharan, who had watched Tendulkar’s creating history on Friday, said that he is likely send a congratulatory message to the little master.
