The board conducted Covid-19 tests on the duo the same night and followed it with another round of tests on Saturday and both turned out negative. Following the tests and results, the duo could join the team ahead of their PSL 2021 opener against Lahore Qalandars on Sunday.

Ever since the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic struck it has changed the world order. Several big and small sports tournaments had to be cancelled or postponed due to the pandemic. Slowly but steadily sports fraternity resumed playing behind closed doors and bereft of fans’ fervor to boost them.

Over time, most organisers have allowed spectators in limited numbers to where they belong. We witnessed several instances such as the recently concluded India Tour of Australia, the Big Bash League (BBL) etc., where a limited number of audiences could watch and enjoy the game live. However, the same cannot be said about the players, team management and personnel who remain in strict bio-secure facilities to avoid any disruptions.

There are serious repercussions about breaching a bio-secure area or a bio-bubble created for players. It was devised to continue playing and have no or minimal contact from the outside world during the course of the competition. One such recent breach occurred in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021, however it didn’t create any panic as both the player and the coach tested negative twice before being allowed back with their team.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) allowed PSL franchise Peshawar Zalmi skipper Wahab Riaz and coach Daren Sammy to join the side after testing negative for the coronavirus following a breach by the duo on Friday. PCB relaxed the mandatory three-day quarantine period announced earlier for them. In accordance with the board’s protocols Riaz and Sammy were to undergo the quarantine as well as return negative in two tests in a 48-hour gap before they could join their team.
