Queensland sign Luke Pomersbach

Troubled Australian cricketer Luke Pomersbach signed by Queensland on a one-season deal.

Sydney: Troubled Australian cricketer Luke Pomersbach was on Wednesday signed by Queensland on a one-season deal, with chief selector Trevor Hohns saying the batsman would have a "fresh start" with the Bulls.

Pomersbach, 27, made headlines when he was arrested in New Delhi earlier this year while playing in the Indian Premier League.

He was accused of molesting a 27-year-old woman but a court later dropped the case after the woman said they had reached an out-of-court settlement.

Hohns said Bulls coach Darren Lehmann would help keep the batsman, who has a history of off-field misdemeanours, on the "straight and narrow".

"It's very easy to discard people but we are here to help," Hohns said.

"We will back our environment to bring out the best in him."

Hohns said signing Pomersbach, who has battled depression, was a "no-brainer".

"He has come here for the right reasons - for a fresh start," he said.

"And on his own free will - we didn't chase him.

"We also did a bit of research with people who have dealt with him recently - it was a no-brainer for us."

Pomersbach joins Usman Khawaja and Nathan Hauritz in the 20-strong Queensland squad.
