Rajasthan Royals' Pravin Tambe was approached to fix IPL matches: report

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, it was Rajasthan Royals' legspinner Pravin Tambe who was approached by one of his Mumbai Ranji Trophy team-mates ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2015 to help fix matches. However, name of the player who made the approach is still not clear.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) did not reveal the player's name who was approached or who approached him and kept the matter confidential.

The Indian cricket board had earlier only acknowledged in a press release that a player had been approached, while profusely praising its anti-corruption education programme.

Now, it has been over two months but the investigation is yet to reach its conclusion. The investigators have also not disclosed the identity of the player who approached Tambe.

"We haven't received information from the BCCI on who the two players are. We will not know till they inform us," Nitin Dalal, MCA treasurer, who was the joint-secretary when the incident came to light, told HT.

The BCCI too confirmed that the investigation is still to be completed.

"The investigation is the subject of the anti-corruption and security unit (ACSU) and once it submits the report, the disciplinary committee of the BCCI will act on it," board president Jagmohan Dalmiya told the newspaper.

From making his IPL debut in 2013 at the age of 41 - the oldest to do so in the league's short history, Tambe has been one of the biggest success stories of the IPL.

The Maharashtra man hadn't played a single competitive game until his IPL debut. But since his induction into the Rajasthan team, The 43-year-old Tambe's career graph has been on a rise.

The closest Tambe came to playing Ranji Trophy for his native Mumbai earlier was in 2000 when his name featured in the probables. He was also named in Mumbai's squad for the 2012-13 Vijay Hazare Trophy knock-outs but did not get a game.

In all, Tambe has represented 12 different teams: Rajasthan Royals; Mumbai Cricket Association XI; Parsi Gymkhana; Shivaji Park Gymkhana; St Helens Recreation in Merseyside, England; Victory Cricket Club; Rainford in the Liverpool Premier League; and four different teams of the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.

He has 23 wickets in as many IPL matches at an economy of 7.55.
