Hardik Pandya continued his fine return from injury with a five-wicket haul to stake his claim for return to Indian Test squad while Punjab opener Shubman Gill smashed 199 to secure first innings lead of Tamil Nadu in Mohali. Here are the major takeaways from second day of Ranji Trophy round six.

Solanki ton fires Baroda after Hardik fifer

Vishnu Solanki’s unbeaten 128 off 231 balls powered Baroda to 244/1 in reply to Mumbai’s 465 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Solanki has put on 232 runs for the second wicket with Aditya Waghmode, who is batting on 87, after Hardik Pandya’s 5/81 kept the home side’s total in check.

In another Elite Group C match, Jharkhand left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem smashed 109 to prop up his team’s total to 354. Uttar Pradesh claimed 6/105 to keep a check on the visitors. Suresh Raina was unbeaten on 65 after Priyam Garg’s 54 as the hosts reached 173/4 by stumps on day two.

Gill’s unbeaten 199 lifts Punjab, Jalaj sends Delhi on a spin

Young Punjab opener Shubhman Gill was unbeaten on 199 off just 234 balls, a knock studded with 21 fours and four sixes to lead the home side to 308/2 in reply to Tamil Nadu’s 215. Giving young Gill company was his skipper Mandeep Singh on 50.

In another Elite Group match, Delhi were pushed to the brink of innings defeat by Kerala all-rounder Jalaj Saxena, who followed up his first innings 68 with 6/39 in 31 overs as the visitors were bundled out for 139 in reply to hosts’ 320. Following on, Delhi were once against in trouble as Warrier’s 3/16 and Basil Thampi’s 2/16 reduced them to 41/5.

Bihar & Puducherry win big in Plate Group

Bihar defeated Meghalaya by an innings and 71 runs after bundling out their rivals for just 46 in the second innings of their Plate Group match. After taking a 117-run first innings lead, Ashutosh Aman added 6/17 to his first-innings haul of 8/51 as the minnows were bundled out in just 26.5 overs.

In another Plate Group match, after 22 wickets fell on the opening day, Puducherry managed to thrash Arunachal Pradesh by 334 runs. Paras Dogra’s 139 set Arunachal a target of 406 but Pankaj Singh claimed 5/25 to bowl them out for 71.

Uttarakhand opener Vineet Saxena remained unbeaten on 150 and coupled with Vaibhav’s 101 helped their team reach 371/4 in reply to Nagaland’s 207 in the first innings.
