Porvorim (Goa): A maiden unbeaten century by Amogh Desai (101) and half centuries by Sagun Kamat (70) and Regan Pinto (61) helped Goa reach a respectable 264 for 3 on the opening day of their Ranji Group C league match against Assam, played at PCA ground on Saturday.

Desai and Mansur Bisla (21) were at the crease at stumps. Goa, who were asked to bat after the visitors won the toss, lost an early wicket of debutant Balekar(6). Kamat and Desai then took control of the situation and went on to add 155 runs for the second wicket before the former was caught by Dheeraj Jadhav off Arlen Konwar.

Desai, who retired hurt when on 65 after he got a nasty blow on his fingers from Diraj Goswami, came back to score his maiden ton with the help of eleven fours and a six. It came off 230 balls.

The visitors, who toiled hard, got rid of the well-settled Regan Pinto when he was caught by Siva Shankar Roy off Syed Mohammed for 61.

Regan's fifty came with the help of five fours and a six in 96 balls.

For the visitors, Das, Konwar and Syed Mohammed claimed a wicket each.

Andhra Pradesh vs Kerala:

In Cuddapah, veteran batsman Amol Muzumdar (99) was one run away from his 30th first class century as Andhra Pradesh recovered well to post 249 for 7 on the opening day against Kerala. After being invited to bat, Andhra were struggling at 139 for 5 at one stage but Muzumdar found an able ally in Syed Sahabuudin to rescue the side.

Together they added 95 runs for the sixth wicket. Mumzumdar will resume his innings on Sunday and giving him company was T Atchuta Rao, who was yet to open his account. Muzumdar has faced 195 balls so far and hit 13 boundaries.

Sandeep Warrier (2 for 54), U Manukrishnan (2 for 59) and KJ Rakesh have (2 for 20) took two wickets each, while India discard S Sreesanth returned with 1 for 49.

Jammu and Kashmir vs Tripura:

In Jammu, the first day's play between J&K and Tripura was washed out due to heavy rain without a ball being bowled.
