New Delhi: The Indian women's team might have failed to beat England in the final of the ICC Women’s World Cup at Lord’s on Sunday, but former and current Indian stars joined hands with Bollywood superstars like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan to applaud the effort put in by Mithali Raj and the girls. And leading the way was none other than little master Sachin Tendulkar.

Taking to Twitter, Tendulkar wrote: “Feel for all of you, #WomenInBlue! You were good throughout but sometimes it is not meant to be. Congrats England on winning #WWC17Final!”

His former opening partner Virender Sehwag too praised the girls and wrote: “Super proud of the girls. Tough luck today but womens cricket in India has truly arrived. Thank you girls .Salute your spirit. #WWC17Final.”

India opener Shikhar Dhawan drove home the fact that the country is proud of the way the women played in the tournament. He wrote: “Congratulations to the England Women's cricket team. Well played @BCCIWomen. The entire country is proud of you for playing great cricket!☺️”

His opening partner KL Rahul too did not waste the opportunity to congratulate the girls. His tweet read: “Chin up Ladies. You've made the whole country and yourselves Very Very Proud. @BCCIWomen #WWC17Final #WomenInBlue.”

Rohit Sharma too praised the women and wrote: “Great effort throughout the tournament by team India. Lost the game but won million hearts by displaying some inspiring cricket. @BCCIWomen.”

But the best message had to be the one tweeted by Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan as he gave the girls an important lesson as well. “T 2494 - Until you loose, you shall never know the joy of victory ! Well played ladies .. Bhartiya Nari Zindabad !! WWC17.”

Shah Rukh wished that he was there to hug the girls and boost their spirit. “I wish I was there to give the Lovely Ladies a hug. Be proud girls we have achieved greatness today. @BCCIWomen u made all Indians proud.”

Clearly women’s cricket in the country will take a huge boost from Mithali and her team’s performance in this edition of the Women’s World Cup. They might not have won the trophy, but they have surely won hearts.
