Board of Control for Cricket in India's selection committee chairman Sandeep Patil, who is set to complete his four-year term in September, has reportedly sought a one-year extension for his post.
A report in the Indian Express said Patil made the request in a letter to BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke and that it is likely to be rejected.
A BCCI official told the daily that as per the board's rule, no selector can hold his position for more than four years.
“He knows that no selector can hold a post for four years and despite that he wants an extension. How can he even expect BCCI to consider such kind of request. There are others too waiting for selectors job,” it quoted an unnamed BCCI official as saying.
Incidentally, Patil had earlier applied for the job of Indian team coach but wasn’t shortlisted for the interview.
Patil was the first big name to apply for the post but he wasn’t summoned for the interview.
The former Mumbai and India player is currently with Team India in West Indies in his first trip abroad as a selector.
