Cape Town: South Africa opening batsman Alviro Petersen is retiring from international cricket. Petersen made his announcement after top-ranked South Africa beat the West Indies by eight wickets in the third and final Test on Tuesday for a 2-0 series victory.
The 34-year-old Petersen said he will now concentrate on playing domestic cricket in South Africa and English county cricket.
Petersen made a century on debut against India in 2010 and finished with five career centuries and eight half-centuries in 36 Tests at an average of 34.88.
Petersen said he will miss his teammates, "but it is time to move on."
South African players stood near Petersen in a show of support as he made the announcement at a news conference.
