Sri Lanka fast bowler Lahiru Kumara has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee after he was found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel during day three of the first Test against New Zealand in Wellington on Monday. To add to that he also received one demerit point for ‘audible obscenity’ against Tom Latham.

The incident took place during the 96th over of the New Zealand innings after an outside edge off Latham’s bat went for a boundary. The comments were heard by the on-field umpires and also picked by the stump mic.

Post the day’s play, the bowler admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Match Referee.

Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.
