New Delhi: Suresh Raina has been known to be an ardent Ravi Shastri fan. Days after India were handed a whitewash in the Test series against England in 2014, Shastri joined the team for the ODI series and Raina hit a century in the opening ODI. And in the post-match interaction, he had spoken how having Shastri around had helped change the mood in the camp after the loss in the Test series, even though Raina wasn’t a part of the Test team.

And on Tuesday, he led the race as former and current cricketers got together to congratulate Shastri after he was appointed head coach of the team till the 2019 World Cup. Raina took to Twitter and wrote: “Congratulations @ImZaheer @RaviShastriOfc & #RahulDravid. Best wishes for a successful tenure with #TeamIndia @BCCI.”

Former India batsman Mohammad Kaif also took to Twitter to not only congratulate Shastri, but also his former teammate Zaheer Khan on being appointed bowling coach. He wrote: “Having @ImZaheer as bowling coach is a fantastic move.Wish Team India good luck under Ravi Shastri .Hopefully d focus will be on cricket now.”

Former India opener and now commentator Aakash Chopra also took to Twitter to comment on Shastri’s role: “If Bangar & Sridhar continue in their respective roles, Shastri's role is similar to the one he had earlier...only the designation changes!”

Removed after a successful stint with the team till the World T20 in 2016 — as the Cricket Advisory Committee appointed Anil Kumble as the head coach — Shastri will be at the helm till the 2019 World Cup.
