Suzie Bates smashed 151 off just 94 deliveries as New Zealand women reached a record high total of 490/4 in 50 overs. The White Ferns smashed their previous record, when they had scored 455/5 against Pakistan in Christchurch.

Bates hit 24 boundaries and two sixes, supported by Maddy Green's 121 off just 77 balls. Jess Watkin scored a fine 62 and 17-year-old Amelia Kerr provided the finishing touches, smashing her way to 81 off just 45 balls.

Ireland's bowlers were on the suffering side, with 17-year-old Carra Murray conceding 119 runs from her 10 overs and picking just two wickets. A major blow was served to Ireland as their experienced spinner Isobel Joyce was barred from bowling after she bowled two beamers. Joyce conceded 13 runs from her only over.

An unprecedented 64 boundaries were hit in addition to the seven sixes by New Zealand batters.

In men's cricket, the highest total in ODI is 444 for three, made by England against Pakistan in August 2016 at Nottingham.

It's the third time that a 400-plus score has been made in women's ODIs. Australia was the first team to touch the 400-plus mark when it thrashed Danish women's team to score 412 for three in Mumbai in December 1997. In men's ODIs, a 400-plus score has been achieved 18 times by different teams.
