New Delhi: Ever since Anil Kumble’s appointment as chief coach, former team director Ravi Shastri has gone back to commentary for BCCI. But on Sunday, Shastri was seen spending quality time with skipper Virat Kohli as both the India and Australia players warmed-up ahead of the fourth day’s action in Ranchi.
While Kumble succeeded Shastri after the former leg-spinner was appointed chief coach by the Cricket Advisory Committee of the BCCI — comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman — the chemistry between Kohli and Shastri is no secret.
But the two haven’t been seen publicly discussing the game much ever since Kumble beat Shastri to the coach’s job. Yet, it was indeed a pleasant sight to see Shastri talk with Kohli as not many people understand how the young India skipper functions than the former team director.
In fact, it was the two of them who had started India’s journey to claim the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test Rankings after Mahendra Singh Dhoni retired from the longest format of the game in Australia.
BCCI posted a picture of the two interacting and the post read: “Some pre-start talk between @RaviShastriOfc and @imVkohli #INDvAUS.”

While Kohli has gelled really well with Kumble and the two have taken things forward from where Shastri left, it looks like an out-of-form Kohli turned to Shastri for some pep talk.
Shastri has time and again said that he sees this team going places under Kohli’s leadership.
