New Delhi: Indian team recorded a thrilling 2-1 comeback series win over Australia in the recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. For the hosts, almost every player managed to contribute in team's success on the pitch, but middle-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara was the stand-out performer for India — something which even Indian skipper Virat Kohli agrees to.

Pujara slammed 405 runs from seven innings at an average of 57.85, which included one double century and two half-centuries. But it was not just his runs, it was the timing of his runs that was crucial for India to snatch away the trophy from their arch-rivals.

Pujara's partnership with Ajinkya Rahane in the second innings of the Bengaluru Test that helped India win the match and level the series. While his double century in Ranchi put India in a position from where they could not have lost the match. Pujara's second half-century came in the first innings of the Dharamsala Test, when Australian bowlers where trying to make a comeback into the match.

Virat Kohli acknowledged Pujara's contribution in the team's success and lauded the Suarashtra star on social media.

Kohli's Instagram post read: 'Everyone has contributed this season but iam particularly happy and delighted to see the grit and determination of this guy. What a champion. Least mentioned but most effective. Well done puji @cheteshwar_pujara for an outstanding season brother. Wish you many more years of stupendous performances for the team. Keep going.'

Pujara returned the favour by lauding Kohli's leadership skills and his glorious batting form throughout the season. Pujara's Instagram post read: 'Thanks a lot @virat.kohli it was indeed a wonderful year for Team India. Very well done on your brilliant leadership and performance throughout the season. Lets continue giving our best to the nation for years to come. #Repost @virat.kohli'

Chetehwar Pujara's astonishing consistency helped India win the series against the likes of Australia, England and New Zealand in the recently-concluded Test season. Pujara's run-scoring feats also helped him break Gautam Gambhir's eight-year old record of most runs scored by and Indian in a season.
