Team India skipper Virat Kohli has registered another century, albeit not on the pitch but on social media. On Monday, the 32-year-old became the first Asian cricketer to have 100 million followers on Instagram. The swashbuckling batsman is also the first sport celebrity in the Asia-Pacific region to achieve the feat.

To mark this memorable achievement, Kohli shared a video clip with his 100 million fans on the photo-video sharing platform. The video starts with ‘Milestone reached together’ and rolls out with photos of the cricketer journey throughout his career. Among the photos – a childhood photo of Kohli having a snack, his wedding photo with actress Anushka Sharma and sharing a fun moment with his mother were showcased. The video ends with followers counter reaching the 100 million mark and one of Kohli’s iconic photo of raising his bat after a century.

He captioned the post and wrote, “You have made this journey beautiful. Feeling blessed and grateful for all the love. Thank you.”His latest post has garnered more than 3 lakh views and thousands of user comments congratulating the maverick captain.

For over two years, Kohli has been the most followed person on Instagram in India. And now with the new 100 million milestone, he joins the likes of football and Hollywood elites. Overall, Portugal and Juventus football star Cristiano Ronaldo tops the chart with 267 million followers,followed by American singer-songwriter Ariana Grande with 224 million followers. Hollywood actor and former pro-wrestler Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is third on the list with 220 million followers. Argentinian football captain and FC Barcelona legend Lionel Messi and Brazil’s Neymar are other two sports celebrities with 186 million and 147 million followers respectively.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) took to Twitter to share the news and wrote, “Virat Kohli – the first cricket star to hit 100 million followers on Instagram.”

Interestingly Kohli’s followers swelled from 50 million followers to 100 million in just a year. In February last year, he had become the first Indian to get 50 million followers on Instagram. The Indian skipper’s fame is just not limited to Instagram, as he has 40.8 million followers on Twitter and over 36 million likes on Facebook.
