Virat Kohli Will Come Back Hard At Steve Smith and Boys: Steve Waugh

New Delhi: Australia national selector Mark Waugh might have said that India skipper Virat Kohli is suffering a 'brain fade', but elder brother and former Australia skipper Steve Waugh is confident that Kohli will come back hard at the Aussies.

Talking on his Facebook page, the senior Waugh did agree that Kohli has been out of sorts, but made it clear that the India skipper will be soon among the runs and prove the detractors wrong.

"Kohli seems to be a little out of sorts at the moment. It’s the first time he’s been under pressure for a while. Australia have had good plans to him as well (but) he’s been a little bit muddled in his thinking.

"That’s best shown by two of his dismissals where he let balls go against the spinners (against Steve O’Keefe in the second innings in Pune and against Nathan Lyon in the first innings in Bengaluru). That’s something he never would have done even in his junior cricket days,” Waugh explained.

"So far Australia have (contained him) very well ... but I expect him to score runs later on (in the series)."

Waugh said that the two dismissals against O’Keefe and Lyon shows that Kohli isn’t at the top of his game at present, and Waugh feels the pressure of expectations from the home fans have got to Kohli.

"That means he’s not quite thinking 100 per cent, so Australia have got him a bit rattled at the moment. (A) home Test series, they’re expected to win it and right now (at stumps on day three) Australia are in front. I think he’s feeling the pressure of 1.3 billion Indians, wanting him to score runs and thinking he’s going to every time," he said.

Even though Steve Smith and his boys have been excellent in containing Kohli, Waugh feels that it won’t be long before the India skipper is back in his elements.

"That was always going to be a key component of this Test series, how many runs Virat Kohli was going to score,” he said.
