The third and final ODI between West Indies and Sri Lanka had to be halted for an odd reason as bees invaded the pitch during the ongoing game at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua on Sunday. In a video going viral on social media, players can be seen lying down on the pitch with their heads down as the bee invasion was on fill swing.
The incident took place in the 38th over of the Sri Lankan innings when Anderson Phillip of the Windies was bowling. After the first delivery was bowled, a swarm of bees came in and went straight through the ground. To avoid any contact, all players and officials laid down with the match coming to a halt for a brief moment.

In the match, West Indies decided to bowl first after winning the toss first. The visitors started off well with Danushka Gunathilaka and Dimuth Karunaratne giving them a good start but once Gunathilaka fell in the 14th over, the hosts continued to take wickets at regular intervals to ensure the Lankans don’t get away with the scoring. However, Wanindu Hasaranga and Ashen Bandara did manage to dig their heels in and smack the bowlers around towards the end to take the score to 275/6 from 50 overs. Hasaranga top-scored with an unbeaten 80 off 60 balls while Bandara remained not out on 55 from 74 balls.
Coming out to bat, Windies lost Evin Lewis and Jason Mohammed early but man of the moment Shai Hope continued his fine form and scored another fifty before falling for 64 to Thisara Perera in the 32nd over. But, Darren Bravo (102) hung in there and brought up his fourth ODI ton as the hosts edged closer. In the end, captain Kieron Pollard remained not out on 53 as the home side won the game with 5 wickets in hand nine balls to spare.
With the win, West Indies won the ODI series 3-0 following up on their 2-1 win over the Lankans in the T20I series. Next, the two sides will engage in a two-Test series starting on March 21 at the same venue.
