On the last ball of the game, she dove forward full length at the long on boundary to catch left handed Amy Sattherthwaite’s lofted drive. She ran in a few metres before completing a catch that would have made Jonty Rhodes proud. Sattherthwaite was dismissed for five off the bowling of Stafanie Taylor.
Kaur also bowled an over, but that did not go well as she conceded 16 runs and was hit for two boundaries and a six.
In the season opener, the hosts, Sydney Thunder struggled early on and after Harmanpreet was dismissed were in deep trouble at 41/4. Rachael Haynes scored a half century and Nicola Carey’s big shots took the Thunder to a formidable 200.
In the chase, Melbourne Renegades were driven on by Jessica Duffin and Chamari Athapaththu’s, but despite their best efforts, they fell 11 runs short in the run chase. Amidst all the big shots in shortest format of the game it was the catching also stood out on the opening day of the WBBL.
